Summary:
Olafur Eliasson, one of today's most acclaimed contemporary artists, and David Adjaye, a rising architecture star, have engaged in a unique collaboration. Eliasson's light installation "Your Black Horizon," which debuted at the 2005 Venice Biennale, was conceived from the start as a hybridization of both of their practices. The piece consists of a light, representing a horizon line that emanates through a narrow gap in an architectural structure. This is the only light source, and it runs around the entire dark gallery space, without any visual obstruction. The optical illusion that is achieved is that of a reversed horizon line. This publication is presented in conjunction with the installation of this project in Croatia. Critic and curator Daniel Birnbaum, writer Eva Ebersberger and curator Daniela Zyman contribute in-depth essays, which are accompanied by large-scale spreads of the project.

Summary:
In this book art critic and historian Sven Lutticken takes philosopher Theodor Adorno's critique of popular arts and culture a step further. Adorno criticized the manipulation of taste in official cultures and the pretense of individualism; Lutticken looks at the tension between fundamentalism and individualism in the context of the current religious-political image wars. This book examines both the afterlife of religious elements in modern culture and possible responses to the current religious re-appropriation of Adorno's critique of modern capitalist culture by both Christian fundamentalists and radical Islamists.

Summary:
Is Europe a place, a space, or a temporary community of shared interests? As a political space, Europe is as conflictual as its debated constitution. It is a construct that must be continuously negotiated, and its longing for an architecture of strategic encounters parallels an increasing economical power of the private sector, while the sovereignty of European nation states attenuate. This book, edited by London-based architect and author Markus Miessen, marks an extension of the discursive space he has produced as contribution to the 2007 Lyon Biennial. He has pulled together a heterogeneous group of interlocutors to lead conversations on alternative notions of participation, the inconsistence between democratic concepts, and what it means to live in Europe today.

Summary:

Dedicated to the influential group of artists and architects of the American counter-culture, ‘Ant Farm' provides an overview of the groups projects, from the mythical ‘Cadillac Ranch' to ‘The House of the Century', and from ‘Media Burn' to ‘Eternal Frame'. The group's projects are based as much on conceptual art practices, as on architecture, theatre or literature. Published on the occasion of an retrospective exhibition at the FRAC Centre, Orléans, this book is filled with photographs of works and performances, essays and interviews.

Credited as one of the formative minds behind the New Berlin, Dudler's residential work at Gendarmenmarkt, and his transformer substation at Lutzoplatz, reveal cubes that are based in a rational architectural evaluation of what is absolutely necessary. Four walls. No frills. As evidenced in the 22 plans included in Energy Buildings, Dudler's core strength is his conceptual backbone, where projects for Vattenfall Europe AG begin as drawings on a page. Beginning with his work for Bewag in the late 80s, the book crisply describes the rise of an architect of the new Germany, a place where an architectural idea is only as strong as the gracefulness of its execution. In this electrifying showcase of Max Dudler's power stations, Energy Buildings traces the public works constructions of a man who has mastered the architectural square.
