Summary:
Temporary structures, such as scaffolding, barriers, and building sites, ensure the functioning of multiple processes, from construction and deconstruction to maintenance, guidance, and protection. ''Temporary Tecture'' presents a new perspective on this type of contemporary vernacular architecture—often overlooked in both public and professional discourse, despite its omnipresence. This new approach reveals that these “structures of necessity” provide an architectural language from which architects can learn in terms of adaptability, use of local resources, circular economy, and conceptual radicalism. Ultimately, it raises the question: How permanent should architectural solutions be in a continuously changing world?

'Would they still call me a diva if I were a man?' asked Zaha Hadid, challenging as she did so more than a century of stereotypes about female architects. In the same spirited approach, ''Breaking ground'' is a pioneering visual manifesto of more than 200 buildings designed by women all over the world. Featuring twentieth-century icons such as Julia Morgan, Eileen Gray and Lina Bo Bardi, and the best contemporary talent, from Kazuyo Sejima to Elizabeth Diller and Grafton Architects, this book is, above all else, a ground-breaking celebration of extraordinary architecture.

Summary:
This gorgeously produced monograph focuses on the period during which Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964) developed and refined his investigations of serial, reductive and permutational forms and compositions, a body of work that has had a profound influence on 20th-century contemporary art and painting. Included here are four of the ten iconic “yellow cloth paintings,” a series featured prominently in the historic 1998 exhibition at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, and numerous late paintings by the Italian master. Lavishly reproduced, these immersive plates draw attention to the idiosyncratic perspectival and color-driven decisions that give the work its abstract power. In addition to an essay by art historian Laura Mattioli, founder of the Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA), the book includes a fantastic array of contributions by contemporary artists, including John Baldessari, Lawrence Carroll, Vija Celmins, Mark Greenwold, Liu Ye, Alexi Worth and Zeng Fanzhi. Each of the artists offers a personal response to Morandi’s work, and to the 2015 David Zwirner exhibition this book accompanies. Working in different mediums across many disciplines, this diverse list of contributors is a testament to the reach of Morandi’s paintings and their influence on contemporary art.

Summary:
Informed by early twentieth-century avantgardes, principally cubism and expressionism, Dana Schutz's art is an extraordinary and joyful mash-up where a multitude of references and allusions collide. The exhilarating results can be understood as a productive conversation with the history of painting and as a compelling testament to painting's complex and unending death throes. With its conflations of Gericault, horror films, Ensor, Picasso, Guston, porn, and pop culture, her work appears to counter and confront the imperious Internet information colossus, where everything is available at once. This bilingual publication accompanies an exhibition of new and recent work. Born in 1976, Dana Schutz is a New York based artist whose work over the past decade has had a notable influence on contemporary painting. She has had solo exhibitions at, notably, Miami Art Museum (2012); Denver Museum of Contemporary Art and Denver Art Museum (2012); and Hannover Kesterngesellschaft and Hepworth Wakefield (2013). Her work is found in numerous collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and Whitney Museum of American Art.
