Summary:

Summary:
For more than ten years, the celebrated artist Per Arnoldi of Copenhagen has been working together with the world famous London architect Norman Foster. Arnoldi’s contributions range from posters of Foster’s buildings to targeted chromatic interventions in interior spaces to the complex total "chromatic concept” for a massive new structure. His color choices serve to create atmosphere and also guide the user clearly through the space. This book provides systematic and detailed documentation of this entire collaborative spectrum. Projects include: the Commerzbank in Frankfurt, the Reichstag in Berlin, the Imperial College in London, HM Treasury in London, the National Police Monument in London, the Arag Tower in Düsseldorf, the World Port Center in Rotterdam, and Decaux’s headquarters in London. The photographs were taken specially for this book to capture the specific qualities of the interplay between space and color.

Summary:
The "evolving structures" exhibition brings together four revitalizations of buildings from different historical periods and of various typologies that have fallen out of use. In dealing with the restrictions imposed by the existing buildings - as well as with the requirements of monument preservation - the aim is to develop the existing substance from within. In this way, the buildings can regain their presence, which has faded over time, and radiate new vitality into their surroundings. From each of the four projects in the exhibition, ksg has formulated a thesis on sustainable transformation that describes the specific measure to be taken on the existing structure - the architectural key that enables a new activation of the existing building. All of the projects presented are currently undergoing conversion. This makes it possible to vividly convey the processes and the attitude of kister scheithauer gross.

Summary:
Vladimir Tatlin’s Monument for the III. International (1919) is certainly one of the most significant projects of Soviet Constructivism. It is, however, not at all certain whether “Tatlin’s Tower” could even be built at all at the time it was originally planned. And whether it would be constructed today with the presently available means and possibilities of planning, calculating and processing materials is equally uncertain. The seminar on Structural Design 3 (Prof. Klaus Bollinger) focused on these reflections at the Institute of Architecture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The preliminary answers and assumptions are summed up in the present volume. Complementing the works by students, texts by Klaus Bollinger, Frank Werner, Florian Medicus, Gabriele Werner, Georg Glaeser and Frank Gruber provide an overview of the theoretical, historical, constructive and geometric relevance of Vladimir Tatlin’s work and the architect’s intentions.

Summary:
Munich, notorious in recent history as the capital of the Nazi movement, is the site of Gavriel Rosenfeld's inquiry into the German collective memory of the Third Reich. Rosenfeld shows, with how the city's urban form developed after 1945 in direct reflection of its inhabitants' evolving memory of the Second World War and the Nazi dictatorship. In the second half of the twentieth century, the German people's struggle to come to terms with the legacy of Nazism has dramatically shaped nearly all dimensions of their political, social, and cultural life. The area of urban development and the built environment, little explored until now, offers visible evidence of the struggle. By examining the ways in which the people of Munich reconstructed the ruins of their historic buildings, created new works of architecture, dealt with surviving Nazi buildings, and erected new monuments to commemorate the horrors of the recent past, Rosenfeld identifies a spectrum of competing memories of the Nazi experience. Examining the debates between traditionalists, modernists, postmodernists, and critical preservationists, Rosenfeld shows that the memory of Nazism in Munich has never been "repressed" but has rather been defined by constant dissension and evolution. On balance, however, he concludes that Munich came to embody in its urban form a conservative view of the past that was inclined to diminish local responsibility for the Third Reich.
