Summary:
In the South of France, sited on a hill of olive trees, pinus pinea, and a vineyard, a family retreat was designed with a key mission of maintaining the vitality of the site. A small agricultural plot, the site offered the possibility of amplification. With the introduction of a garden and many outdoor living spaces, the family had the intention of cultivating the landscape as part of their stewardship. In part a response to a programmatic brief, but moreover, a discursive response to architectural predicaments of geometry, typology, and anomaly, the house is also a response to Preston Scott Cohen’s pedagogies on architecture.

Summary:
In this imaginative and scholarly book, Steven Jacobs explores the architectural elements of Alfred Hitchcock's films and the vital role they played in providing atmosphere and facilitating plot development. Hitchcock famously left nothing to chance, and from the Greenwich Village apartment that provided the set for Rear Window or the now-iconic Bates house in Psycho, every architectural entity plays a significant role both in setting the scene and in advancing the suspenseful narratives of which Hitchcock was master. Having worked as a set designer in the early 1920s, the director remained intimately involved with his films' sets throughout his entire career.

Summary:
Downfall: The Architecture of Excess is a novel set between Montreal, Venice, London and Mexico in a flux of political and economic intrigue, where architecture becomes one of the primary characters of the unfolding plot. It weaves together the sublime and comical lives of the three protagonists as they collide in one ominous building. In this tale about human ambition, Louise Pelletier, who practiced as an architect for over a decade before devoting herself to teaching, here takes a caustic look at the building industry and the primeval human quest to leave our mark on the world.

Summary:
"Urban forms : the death and life of the urban block" is concerned with the fundamental grammar of our cities which is the key to successful urban environmnents. This work, translated here into English for the first time, argues that modern urbanism has upset the morphology of cities, abolished their streets and isolated the urban tissue, the intermediate scale between the architecture of buildings and the dynamic layouts of town planning, is the essential framework for everyday life. Only by investigating the urban tissue will it be possible to understand the complex relationship between plot and built form, between streets and buildings and between these forms and design practices.

Summary:
In "The Building in the Text", Roy Eriksen shows that Renaissance writers conceived of their texts in accordance with architectural principles. His approach opens the way to wide-ranging discussions of the structure and meaning of a variety of literary texts and also provides new insights into the famed architectural ekphrases of Alberti and Vasari. Analyzing such words as "plot," "topos," "fabrica," and "stanza," Eriksen discloses the fundamental spatial symmetries and complexities in the writings of Ariosto, Shakespeare, and Milton, among other major figures. Ultimately, his book uncovers and clarifies a tradition of literary architecture that is rooted in antiquity and based on correspondences regarded as ordering principles of the cosmos.

Summary:
To talk about this project is easy, because the story of its making is so complex and the results (the public places, the houses, the feeling of civility in the air) so wonderfully rich. There is always something thoughtful and provocative to be said about Borneo Sporenburg. When one reads or hears about the vicissitudes of the project's evolution--about the long approval processes and the large cast of characters--it all seems like an excellent piece of narrative, a great plot replete with subplots leading us to intense episodes of dramatic action. There is something for everyone in the story of these peninsulas.
