Summary:
This volume is the story of an inner journey, told in three movements. It maps a route through discovery, loss, and renewal across landscapes equally real and imagined by the artist. In 2007, Mame-Diarra Niang returned to Senegal to bury her father after spending years away living in France. Her intimate interest in the notion of territory translates into a refracted representation of the landscapes she rediscovered on this visit. The places before Niang’s lens are at once forensically studied and transformed into fabular non-places.

Summary:
"Urban Margins" explores the complex processes through which citizens produce and negotiate these marginalized landscapes and in turn are informed by them. Focusing on Douala in Cameroon and Dakar in Senegal, one essay discusses how the state's failure to provide for its citizens has led many to turn to informal networks and affiliations--whether kin-based, local, translocal, gendered, religious, or secular--for survival. Rendering the urban landscape of these cities in terms of these networks and the ways that they shape a citizen's interaction with the city, the essay considers the political possibilities for African cities where diverse multilingual and ethnic populations face the challenges, pitfalls, and compromises of coexistence.

On the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary, the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation publishes You can go anywhere. This collection of essays by Foundation staff and collaborators reveals the broad scope of how the nonprofit has carried on the legacy of the Alberses over the years. The book is richly illustrated with photos by Iwan Baan, Giovanni Hänninen, and Sofia Verzbolovskis, as well as archival material and art by the Alberses. The heart of the book is devoted to the Foundation's many donations to international museums, including rarely shown works of art. In 2005, the Foundation supported the creation of the humanitarian organization Le Korsa, which helps local communities in Senegal, through health services, education, agriculture, and culture programs. Essays about Le Korsa are sure to inspire the art world, public institutions, and philanthropists. On the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary, the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation publishes You can go anywhere. Summary:
The contributors to ''The Black geographic'' explore the theoretical innovations of Black Geographies scholarship and how it approaches Blackness as historically and spatially situated. In studies that span from Oakland to the Alabama Black Belt to Senegal to Brazil, the contributors draw on ethnography, archival records, digital humanities, literary criticism, and art to show how understanding the spatial dimensions of Black life contributes to a broader understanding of race and space. They examine key sites of inquiry: Black spatial imaginaries, resistance to racial violence, the geographies of racial capitalism, and struggles over urban space. Throughout, the contributors demonstrate that Blackness is itself a situating and place-making force, even as it is shaped by spatial processes and diasporic routes. Whether discussing eighteenth- and nineteenth-century abolitionist print records or migration and surveillance in Niger, this volume demonstrates that Black Geographies is a mode of analyzing Blackness that fundamentally challenges the very foundations of the field of geography and its historical entwinement with colonialism, enslavement, and imperialism. In short, it marks a new step in the evolution of the field.
