Summary:
Céline Wachowski, internationally renowned architect and accidental digital-culture icon, unveils her plans for the Webuy Complex, her first megaproject in Montreal, her hometown. But instead of the triumph she anticipates in finally bringing her reputation to bear in her own city, the project is excoriated by critics, who accuse her of callously destroying the social fabric of neighborhoods, ushering in a new era of gentrification, and many even deadlier sins. When she is deposed as CEO of her firm, Céline must make sense of the charges against herself and the people in her elite circle. For the first time in danger of losing their footing, what fictions must they tell themselves to justify their privilege and maintain their position in the world that they themselves have built? Moving fluidly between Céline’s perspective and the perspectives of her critics, and revealing both the ruthlessness of her methods and the brilliance of her aesthetic vision, "May our joy endure" is a shrewd examination of the microcosm of the ultra-privileged and a dazzling social novel that depicts with razor-sharp acuity the terrible beauty of wealth, influence, and art.

Summary:
This publication from acclaimed architect and critic Mohsen Mostafavi traces a theoretical and visual narrative through architecture's relationship with the colour black. Bringing together a rich inventory of images, it illuminates this connection by considering parallel developments in global art practices with references ranging from Japanese screens to Rothko, Adolf Loos to Norman Foster, Hans Holbein to Derek Jarman. Alongside these renowned touchpoints, Mostafavi draws on a little-known and highly distinctive text by the Marxist German art historian Max Raphael, based on a collection of historic paintings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Contemporaneous with the evolution of black paintings by New York's Abstract Expressionists, Raphael's essay offers a drastically contrasting approach to the same multivalent subject. The book is completed by Rapahel's luminous essay, published in its entirety for the first time in an English translation by Pamela Johnston, as well as conversations with Swiss architect Peter Märkli, whose work with the colour black is informed by Raphael's writings, and Theaster Gates. By juxtaposing the present with the recent and distant past, this book provides a many-layered reading of the colour black ? and of colour more widely ? in relation to contemporary architectural thinking and practice.

Summary:
Among the many recurring interests that connect the rich and open-ended oeuvre of Luigi Ghirri, a fascination with travel resonates through his photographs, publications, and writings. This book by curator James Lingwood charts a course through Ghirri’s photography between 1970 and 1991, exploring the manifold ways in which journeys – viaggi – appear: in iconic landscapes in the Dolomites and the lakes of northern Italy; in the mirror-worlds of seaside resorts along the Adriatic and Mediterranean; among museums, archaeological sites, and theme parks; inside atlases and on postcards; and along his own bookshelves, with their evocative titles and mementoes. This vividly curated book maps a route through Ghirri’s work that takes in familiar landmarks and surprising detours, interleaving many of his best loved photographs with unseen discoveries from the Ghirri archive.
