It was his way of discovering, describing and constructing; and through drawing he presented beguiling architectural imagery of the highest order. Many of his sketches, cutaway drawings and photomontages are brought together and celebrated in this book. These drawings date from the early years of his independent practice, Future Systems, in the 1970s, to his final ink drawings, executed in the mid-1990s. Featured projects range from design studies for the International Space Station, undertaken with NASA, to the Media Centre at Lord's Cricket Ground, in London, winner of the 1999 Stirling Prize.

Summary:
This book accompanies an exhibition that traces the life of the great French-Swiss architect through documents, photographs, and many personal objects rediscovered following a restoration of Le Corbusier’s apartment on Rue Nungesser et Coli, Paris. Le Corbusier collected all kinds of everyday objects he called objets à réaction poétique: shells, pieces of wood, glass or bone, stones, enamelled ceramics, bricks, and common objects. Photographs and sketches of cars demonstrate Le Corbusier’s passion for vehicles and means of transport, and the tickets, tourist brochures, and postcards of monuments that the architect collected show his sentimentality for the journeys he took internationally.

Summary:
The act of building and its material reality play a defining role in the work of Swiss architect Roger Boltshauser. His architectural language thus develops in the context of the examination of materials and their intrinsic constructive and structural possibilities. Edited by architect and lecturer Martin Tschanz, this monograph examines how Boltshauser’s architecture is neither an implementation of a pictorial idea nor a display of a certain principle. Rather, it is integrative and open to complexity, particularly that of the act of building itself. Contrary to the abstractness of modernism and neo-modernism and the arbitrariness of free forms, his is a unique, contemporary expression.

Summary:
The Pocket Books series is an assemblage of small publications which compile theoretical texts by various architects or institutions in different collections. These writings reflect different areas of interest and performance in the architectural discourse. For its second edition, written and compiled by Federico Bucci, the series reflects on the multidisciplinary work of Luigi Moretti (1906–1973). He was the embodiment of the intellectual architect, capable of interweaving art and architecture, and his works are considered among the most original examples of Italian modernism. This book reveals the complex aspects of his theory on form and structure, space and time.

Summary:
''Activism at home'' offers a unique study of architects’ own dwellings; homes purposely designed to express social, political, economic, and cultural critiques. Through thirty case studies by architectural scholars, this book highlights different forms of activism at home from the early twentieth century to today. The architect- led experiments in activist living discussed in this book include the dwellings of Ralph Erskine, Paulo Mendes Da Rocha, Charles Moore, Flora Ruchat-Roncati, Kiyoshi Seike, and many others. Offering candid appraisals of alternative living solutions that formulate a response to rising real estate prices, economic inequality, social alienation, and mounting environmental and cultural challenges, ''Activism at home'' is more than a historical study; it is an appeal to architects to use the discipline’s tools to their full potential, and a plea to scholars to continue bringing architecture's activist practices into focus- whether at home or elsewhere.

Summary:
As focus shifts to ''no net land take'' city regeneration approaches one of the main traditional elements of architecture- the roof- is gaining renewed prominence. This book provides a survey of worldwide experiences of city rooftop re-use strategies such as building-on and integrating new volumes within the existing buildings. Twenty-four case studies illustrate a multiplicity of projects that innovate on traditional typologies by offering multiple ways of living, working and using public services in the city. They all share a symbiotic method that exploits the extraordinariness of the ''top condition'' offered by the roof to foster a subtle change in the whole building's urban identity. They test new technologies for light and quick construction methods in order to deal with structural constraints and the needs of inhabitants. City roofscape redesign belongs to an adaptive attitude based on knowledge of the dynamic process of transformation of the physical realm, far removed from regressive preservation-only behavior. It represents a remarkable way of coping with urban regeneration issues.

Summary:
In the mid-century era of TV dinners and suburban conformity, Russel and Mary Wright were individualists. Their home Dragon Rock at Manitoga is situated on forested woodlands, sited at an abandoned quarry located an hour north of New York City, now part of the Historic Artists' Homes and Studios program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Although best known for American Modern dinnerware, the Wrights rejected rigid modernism for a life that invited ambiguity. Mary's role as a partner, designer, and entrepreneur is explored here for the first time. This volume is filled with personal histories and over one hundred stunning photographs, synthesizing multiple archives and charting the innovation of their design practice, their lives, and the development of their Dragon Rock home and the Woodland Paths of Manitoga.
