Summary:
The legendary 1975 “Schizo-Culture” conference, conceived by the early Semiotext(e) collective, began as an attempt to introduce the then-unknown radical philosophies of post-’68 France to the American avant-garde. The conference was equally important on a political level, and brought together a diverse group of activists, thinkers, patients, and ex-cons in order to address the challenge of penal and psychiatric institutions. The “Schizo-Culture” issue of the Semiotext(e) journal came three years later. Designed by a group of artists and filmmakers, it documented the chaotic creativity of an emerging downtown New York scene, and offered interviews with artists, theorists, writers, and No Wave and pre-punk musicians together with new texts from Deleuze, Foucault, R. D. Laing, and other conference participants. This slip-cased edition includes The Book: 1978, a facsimile reproduction of the original Schizo-Culture publication; and The Event: 1975, a previously unpublished and comprehensive record of the conference that set it all off. It assembles many previously unpublished texts.

Summary:
Arthur Elrod was the most successful interior designer working in the Palm Springs area from 1954 to 1974. His forward-thinking midcentury interior design appeared in primary homes, second houses, third houses, spec houses, country clubs, and experimental houses- in the desert and across the US. He was charming, handsome, and worked tirelessly for his A-list clientele, such as Lucille Ball and Walt Disney. Perhaps his most famous work was done in his own home, known as the Elrod House in Palm Springs, built by architect John Lautner in 1968. His rise paralleled the growing modernist movement in desert architecture, and he worked alongside the leading California architects of the day including E. Stewart Williams, William F. Cody, Paul R. Williams, Edward Fickett and, most famously, John Lautner. Elrod's life was cut tragically short when the convertible he was riding in was hit by a drunk driver one morning in February 1974; he was 49. This in-depth biography is the first and only of its kind.

Summary:
News represents a further development of the much-acclaimed work of artist Thomas Flechtner. Whereas in Snow he looked at snow as a metaphor for timelessness, calm, distance, and loneliness, and in Bloom Flechtner used atmospherically condensed studies of plants to examine the boundless colorfulness and movement of grown nature, for his new project News Flechtner collected newspaper front pages over a period of one year, scattered plant seeds from very different countries over them, watered them, and, finally, exposed them to the sun. He recorded the way the "news" was gradually bleached and overgrown with plants in more than one hundred color photographs. Flechtner contrasts the anarchy of nature with the agenda of mankind, while also questioning the fleetingness of memory and the demands made on it in shaping today's world. Thomas Flechtne r, born in Winterthur in 1961, studied at the Ecole de photographie, Vevey. He has received numerous prizes for his photographic works, which he regularly exhibits. He lives and works in Valliere, France and in Zürich.

"Barcelona 1992-2004" offers a selection of chronologically arranged projects that provide an overview of the period that commences with the 1992 Olympic Games and culminates in the huge cultural event that is the Universal Forum of Cultures-Barcelona 2004. The selection has focused in particular on projects involving the city’s openness to the sea and those which have managed to adapt to its existing residential fabric. Presented as separate chapters are projects for new high-rise buildings and schemes for the 22@ plan and the Universal Forum of Cultures. The selection is preceded by a text by William J. R. Curtis, in which he explains how the development of Barcelona in recent years can be set within policies of a more international kind, followed by an exhaustive urbanistic analysis of the city of Barcelona over the last few decades by Josep Maria Montaner. Photographs by Eva Serrats. With full-colour photographs of the city and plans and illustrations of some of the structures, this volume is a comprehensive guide to Barcelona’s contemporary urban structures.

Summary:

Summary:
For his newest project, R. Sikoryak tackles the monstrously and infamously dense legal document, iTunes Terms and Conditions, the contract everyone agrees to but no one reads. In a word for word 94-page adaptation, Sikoryak hilariously turns the agreement on its head—each page features an avatar of Apple cofounder and legendary visionary Steve Jobs juxtaposed with a different classic strip such as Mort Walker’s Beetle Bailey, or a contemporary graphic novel such as Craig Thompson’s Blankets or Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis . Adapting the legalese of the iTunes Terms and Conditions into another medium seems like an unfathomable undertaking, yet Sikoryak creates a surprisingly readable document, far different from its original, purely textual incarnation and thus proving the accessibility and flexibility of comics. When Sikoryak parodies Kate Beaton’s Hark A Vagrant peasant comics with Steve Jobs discussing objectionable material or Homer Simpson as Steve Jobs warning of the penalties of copyright infringement, Terms and Conditions serves as a surreal record of our modern digital age where technology competes with enduringly ironclad mediums.
