Summary:
Beyond Architecture is the first publication of its kind to document the creative exploration of architecture and urban propositions in the contemporary arts. The projects collected in this book demonstrate how not only architects and designers but also artists are taking architecture as a starting point for experimentation. They range from performance, installation art and crafted sculptures to architectural models, alternative ideas for living spaces and furniture, as well as illustration, painting, collage and photography. Through stunning photography, visuals and complementary texts, these visionary concepts reveal the hidden creative potential for architecture and urban environments in inventive ways.

Soviet peripheral cities are discussed for their historical precedent and contextualized through ironic responses to them by radical architecture collectives such as Superstudio and Archizoom. The volume is rounded out with texts on Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer, Lucio Costa and the planned cities of Chandigarh and Brasilia, as well as a theoretical section on megastructures and megacities. This volume is published in concert with an extensive European traveling exhibition and a series of symposia and workshops.

PARKitectOUR, is a book which documents the three student workshops held in Italy and Switzerland by the University Of Applied Sciences of Bern. The task was to show Parkour and architecture within urban projects. Parkour is a new sport that was created in the suburbs of Paris. A ‘Traceur’ (the runner) moves smoothly, acrobatically and quickly through impenetrable, typically urban terrain. The Traceurs motion creates the "urban free flow." This urban free flow is what the students had to trace in their designs. This was completed along with urban planning tasks in the surroundings of a Luigi Nervi building in Turin. The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Politecnico di Torino. The other two workshops are part of the freshman curriculum at the university where Guy Lafranchi is the dean of studies of the architecture department.

Summary:
Invisible strings bind two countries as di- verse and as far away as Italy and Japan. Those strings are made of creativity, innovation, respect and sometimes criticism of history and tradition. One of these invisible strings is represented by architecture. Both countries have been able to be at the center of great revolutions and at the same time decided to ignore this capacity to create and innovate. 150 years have passed since the two countries started their relationships and just more than 50 since they were among the leaders of what has been the last global avant-garde movement in architecture with the Japanese Metabolists and the Italian Radicals. 50 years ago the two countries were in full demographic, economic and cultural expansion, and those avant-gardes well-represented the vibrant seeds of their architectural proposals. In a curious parallel, 50 years after Italy and Japan live similar cultural and economic conditions and a new generation of architects deals with the timeless themes of living and design.

Summary:
The exhibition 'Architectures without Place (1968-2008)' presents a series of works that either were never built or no longer exist : a vast field which ranges from theoretical speculations, visionary prefigurings and ideas competitions to modified projects, ephemeral installations and botched buildings. This variegated realm of the unbuilt (or of the now non-existent) allows us to analyse the conceptual heritage of a long period of Catalonian cultural history; in other words, it lets us dissect forty years of architecture produced locally, highlighting the prevailing ideas at each step of the way. This is a heterogeneous field of project design in which converge other disciplines fuelled by a powerful desire to articulate and transform space : comics, theatre, film, ephemeral installations and the visual arts in general.
