This project series documents the C. Cultural e Audit. para a Fundação Ibere Camargo in Porto Alegre, Brazil. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 102/90. The office assigned the date 1998 to this project. At the end of the nineties, an architectural competition was held for the construction of a new building for the Iberê Camargo Foundation. The foundation holds the archives and work of the Brazilian painter Ibere Carmargo, as well as hosts temporary exhibitions and seminars. The project site is located near the Guaíba River, between a cliff and the Avenida Padre Cacique. Collaborators on the project were Barbara Rangel, Pedro Polonia, Michele Gigante, Francesca Montalto, Atsushi Ueno, Rita Amaral, José Luiz Cana, and Camargo Correa. The three-stories building is 88,000 square feet and includes nine galleries, storage spaces, offices, a bookstore, an auditorium, and a video library. Each of the galleries is independent but linked via a system of ramps. One of the unique qualities of the building are the ramps that come out of its concrete façade. Due to the limited space, the parking was built below the Avenida Padre Cacique. The building respects the concept of sustainable development, with a sewage treatment station that redistributes the water to the surrounding vegetation. The museum was Siza's first built project in Brazil and it was inaugurated in 2008. Siza received the Golden Lion award at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2003 for this project. Documenting this project are sketches, studies, preliminary drawings, working drawings, technical drawings, and electrical drawings. Textual material includes project documentation, correspondence, and documentation regarding exhibitions about the building. Siza collaborated with Roberto Cremascoli, Andrea Smaniotto, Ueli Krauss, Daniela Antonucci, and Maurice Custer on the project. The project is divided into a residential unit, a guest house, and an art gallery. The original farmhouse was transformed into an art gallery and the new buildings serve as housing. The housing units located on agricultural land form a U shape around the courtyard. The forms and materials of the new units were selected in order to respect Flemish architectural typologies. The buildings were designed in 1994 and completed in 2001. Documenting this project are studies, design development drawings, working drawings, structural drawings, and technical drawings. Siza was hired by the P&T Group as part of a team of specialist-consultants to rethink the districts of Areia Preta and Porto Exterior. A first proposal was submitted in 1984. The proposed plans were accepted by the authorities years later, but never realized due to the construction of hotels and casinos instead of housing. Documenting this project are studies, plans and project site plans. Textual materials include project documentation and correspondence. Photographic materials document the models and project site. Maintaining the urban fabric of the 'ilhas' (islands) and their internal community ties, the São Victor design combined the responsiveness inherent in the participatory nature of the project with architectural and technical precision. An important case study, it led Álvaro Siza Vieira, the project architect, being invited to design projects in Berlin and The Hague in the following decade. In many aspects, São Victor represents an ethically and politically-minded architectural practice, with a stress on understanding the link between being responsive to the voice of the people and the permanence of architectural design. This project series contains reproductions of photographs, drawings and panels displayed in the exhibit to document the São Victor neighbourhood, in Porto, Portugal. The exhibit text explained that: ... the group of 12 houses built for the São Victor neighbourhood was one of SAAL's most important operations, despite the fact that only a small part of the project was carried out. Maintaining the urban fabric of the 'ilhas' (islands) and their internal community ties, the São Victor design combined the responsiveness inherent in the participatory nature of the project with architectural and technical precision. An important case study, it led Álvaro Siza Vieira, the project architect, being invited to design projects in Berlin and The Hague in the following decade. In many aspects, São Victor represents an ethically and politically-minded architectural practice, with a stress on understanding the link between being responsive to the voice of the people and the permanence of architectural design. (The SAAL Process, Housing in Portugal 1974–76) Álvaro Siza worked for SAAL/North with Adalberto Dias, Domingos Tavares, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Francisco Guedes, Graça Nieto, Manuel Borges, Manuela Sambade, Paula Cabral and the residents' association S.
