Summary:
''About architecture'' is an introduction to architecture, exploring the ways in which we construct our built environment, and why. Hugh Pearman guides us through the architecture that shapes our lives—from how our towns and cities are organized, to where we live, learn and work, and how we get around, interact with others, and relax. Organized by type—from civic spaces, to homes, offices, and museums—the clear and straightforward structure demystifies the many styles and functions of architecture. Pearman explores how architecture responds to our changing lifestyles and how some buildings evolve or find new uses. He demonstrates that while there is endless variety within each building type, the essence of architecture—the way buildings serve their users—remains surprisingly constant.

Summary:

Summary:
Two million people have visited the Eden Project in Cornwall, drawn by the vision of its founders - and by the extraordinary feats of the project's architecture, engineering and design that brought that vision to life. The two biomes that form its centrepiece have become iconic structures, already familiar the world over. This book, illustrated with drawings and plans from the Nicholas Gimshaw archive and Richard Kalina's photographs, reveals in detail just how a disused china clay pit became the home to one of the architectural wonders of the world. The introductory essay, by lead architect Andrew Whalley and Hugh Pearman, Sunday Times architectural correspondent, places the biomes in the great English tradition of greenhouses that started with Joseph Paxton.
