Résumé:
In 1949, Munari designed a series of “libri illeggibili” (illegible books), which abandon textual communication in favour of aesthetic function. Paper is no longer the support for the text; it also communicates a message through the format, the colour, the cuts and their successions. Paper is no longer the support for the text; it also communicates a message through the format, the colour, the cuts and their successions. The elements that usually set up a book (like the colophon and the title-page) are omitted, and the reading plays like a melody, with different tones through the sequence of the pages.

Look into my eyes
$47.99
(disponible sur commande)
Résumé:
The theme of “faces” so dear to Munari here turns almost into a game played with the eyes and the different ways of seeing things: “…mix up drawings, change the colour of the eyes, help us to see things through other people’s eyes…”. Bruno Munari suggests how to use the 25 loose coloured pages, all with eye holes.

With full-color images, we learn that flower arranging is not an obscure art but a natural gesture requiring more care and imagination than money. Munari's examples are not to be copied slavishly; they represent examples to aid the reader in uncovering their own natural aesthetic sensibilities.

The PREBOOKS, published for the first time by Bruno Danese in 1980, are a series composed by twelve small books ideally dedicated to very young children which have not yet learned how to read or write. These twelve little books (10 x 10 cm) are designed to fit into small hands and come in many different and unusual colours, bindings and materials. They offer a variety of stimuli, sensations and emotions, raising from perceptions and images: “they should give the sensation that books are indeed objects made like this and that they contain a wide array of surprises. Culture comes out of surprises, which are things that were unknown before” (B. Munari).

“One comes home tired after having worked all day and finds an uncomfortable chair.” This is the start to Bruno Munari’s considerations on the choice between aesthetics and functionality when designing furniture. To support his thesis, Munari analyses the most obvious case of the armchair. You must have been seated on countless types of chair: very low ones, ones with a deep seat, ones with sharp edges, and so on. “But be honest : what is more restful than a tuppenny deckchair.” In Munari’s typically engaging style the great designer reminds us how we could go on inventing furniture each time fashions change when actually all that is needed is to perfect the most comfortable of the existing models, not forgetting the real purpose: comfort and durability.

Ciccì Coccò

Résumé:
Ciccì Coccò is one of the first and rare books for children where photography is used. It may be because of this that Munari was so happy to write the captions and rhymes to go with these poignant pictures taken by Enzo Arnone between the 1970’s and 80’s.

Résumé:
The first ever English translation of Bruno Munari's ''Design and Visual Communication'' (1968) fills a gap in Munari's output for the English-speaking world and provides a highly relevant guide to bridging architecture and design education and everyday life. Published in 1968 after Munari was invited to the Carpenter Center at Harvard to teach, the book transforms over 50 lessons, class materials and letters addressed to the city of Milan, into a book on the future of art, architecture and design. Conceived as a living volume, the book is written to inspire current and future designers to push beyond past events, however recent, and develop new tools to see and understand tomorrow's world.
