Résumé:
Using facts, anecdotes, and personal observation, architect and longtime advocate for the preservation of American architecture Harvey H. Kaiser leads the reader through more than 200 places of interest across the United States. Covering the entire nation and presented by region, this book takes the reader on a journey through recognizable icons such as the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Arch, and the USS Arizona. The extraordinary rustic buildings of the National Parks at Yellowstone, Carter Lake, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon are explored as well as frontier military forts and trading posts like Fort Sumter, Bent's Old Fort, and Fort Clatsop. There are the southwestern sites of the mysterious Anasazi and Chaco cultures and missions of San Antonio, Tumacacori, Pecos, and Salinas Pueblo. Kaiser's descriptions let readers not only feel as if they have shared the experience of these places but also gain a solid understanding of why the architecture is significant to American history.

Résumé:
Since founding Studio Orta in 1993, the Paris-based husband-and-wife team of Lucy and Jorge Orta has produced an extensive body of work that addresses universal concerns about community, shelter, migration, and sustainable development. Beyond merely addressing these issues artistically, their work suggests solutions by modeling fresh approaches to social dilemmas. Their often-playful projects incorporate elements of fashion, art, and architecture, which they combine with performances, multimedia events, and public debates. Featuring hundreds of drawings and photographs, Lucy + Jorge Orta: Food, Water, Life presents recent works that fall into the categories of food, water, and the environment. An interview by curator and critic Hou Hanru provides insight into the artists' processes and motivations.

Résumé:
Blending architectural and social history with the necessity for food, this book attempts to understand the development of the American house by viewing it through one very specific lens: the food axis. The author Elizabeth Collins Cromley explores all areas of food management within the home -- preparation, cooking, consumption, and disposal. Studying the use and interaction of these spaces, and the ways in which their components change over time, the author shows how these elements have helped shape the multiple forms of residential architecture in the United States, from the first settlement period to the present.

Résumé:
Food for the City offers 13 visions from experts across the world: a politician, an activist, an economist, a philosopher, a chef, an architect and a farmer, among others. From the visionary to the practical, their essays and proposals examine the influence food can have on the culture, shape and functioning of the city, addressing issues of urban farming and laboratory engineering, and weighing the choices to be made between altering our food production systems or our consumption patterns. The book comes with a timeline from 2050 BCE to 2050 CE and a rich pictorial essay that demonstrates how feeding a city has been a preoccupation as old as the city itself.

The diversity of pasta morphology, from Agnolotti to Ziti, is revealed through historical anecdotes, recipes, and a b aesthetic. The book starts with the basics, demystified: salt, fat, cooking, and quantity. Kenedy then covers dry vs. fresh, and provides recipes for several pastas and for three authentic sauces that form the foundation for many of the sauces in the book. From the obscure story of Strozzapreti ("priest stranglers") to the humorous warming red pepper and whiskey sauce for Radiatore pasta, or "radiators," one learns how shapes are created to maximize surface area and sauce delivery.
