Résumé:
Coinciding with a major retrospective exhibition at MAXXI, Rome, ''Col tempo, 1956–2024'' provides a complete and long-awaited retrospective of the career of Guido Guidi, sequenced by the artist himself in his typically illuminating, associative style. The book begins with some of the earliest photographs Guidi made, aged fifteen, in the countryside around his home in Cesena in the Italian region of Romagna. The sequence that follows, covering almost seventy years, encompasses a wide range of styles, forms, and approaches as it traces the evolution of one of the most important voices in contemporary photography. It includes journeys to the USA, Russia, Turkey, and Portugal, and studies of the works of architects including Carlo Scarpa, Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier. Consistently, though, it returns to the modest agricultural landscapes where Guidi was born and still lives and works today, among which he has developed the revelatory visual language for which he is celebrated as a modern master.

Fusing urban exploration with her trademark sense of wonder, famed videogame creator Ikumi Nakamura has spent over a decade infiltrating top-secret locations worldwide. Her daring escapades tap into a lost spirit of true adventure, proving that the world is still full of secrets and mystery, just waiting to be revealed. From derelict shipyards and military bases to colossal cooling towers, haunted hotels, and mystical islands, this book is packed with places you thought could only exist in videogames. Urban exploration is a way of life for those who choose it as their passion. The secrets and mysteries that disused places incite can be intoxicating and inspiring. As Nakamura has said, "I love breaking boundaries and making people say 'WOW.' As artists, we use our imagination to see the INVISIBLE." With a foreword by videogame designer-turned-photographer Liam Wong, "Project UrbEx" also features sections of Nakamura’s personal travel diaries, printed on pages with a narrower width in a rich Pantone black and illustrated by specially commissioned, exclusive manga—bringing her much-loved sense of humor to the forefront of the narrative and displaying her keen interest in exploring many mediums of creativity.

It is the story of a complex nation whose ancient ruins cast shadows on the shards of a shattered present. Résumé:
Paul Hutchinson’s work (b. Berlin, 1987; lives and works in Berlin) conveys an intimate and unvarnished perspective, rendering the imperfections, incidental details, and human facets of urban culture. Fleeting moments and encounters often act as a base for his critical photographic practice. The central protagonists in his most recent project, titled Stadt für Alle (transl. City for All), are countless cranes, excavators, and construction signs. They are the tools that power the remaking of any city’s urban fabric – here Berlin mostly sets the example. Building pits constitute the foundation for farewells and new beginnings. Advertising banners for luxury developments vie against protest placards hanging limply on the façades of older buildings. The artist has compiled a pictorial atlas that prompts reflections on the transformation of the city and thereby gives form to the advancing gentrification, the constant feeling of threat and the increasing loss of inner-city street culture. Hutchinson’s writing complements the deft visual analysis of these processes: "The way you look at me, smiling while I’m losing my vision" is one such observation that, in conjunction with his images, opens up a space for interpretation and a probing inquiry into what urban life will mean in the future.

Résumé:
The photographer Christine Erhard’s (b. Crailsheim, 1969; lives and works in Düsseldorf) work delves into the history of the depiction of architecture, and specifically of early-twentieth-century German modernism and constructivist and brutalist structures. Her compositions are inspired by archival research, in which she unearths photographs that typically show architectonic spaces, modernist buildings, or cityscapes. These two-dimensional images often become models for plastic constructions, which are themselves photographed so that different levels of reflection and reality overlap. In exhibitions, Erhard arranges her pictures in installations that transpose them back into three dimensions, for a vivid experience of the dialectical interplay between depiction and physical space. The photographic image emerges in these installations as a body hovering between flat ornament, the illusion of depth, and sculptural presence.
