''Marble in metamorphosis'' contemplates the physical and cultural life of marble. It explores the ethics, politics and symbolism of its use and deliberates over the spirit of the material and why some cultures so revere and desire it. In reflecting on the deep relationship between marble and human culture, it considers the social and historical function of the material throughout time. ''Marble in metamorphosis'' features a new essay on marble and its uses written by Rachel Cusk, who – while on a trip to a marble bearing island in Greece’s Aegean sea – writes on the modern notion of classicism, the fate of monuments through history and the tension between classicism and realism in art and architecture. Chris Kontos’ photographic series explores two landscapes marked by marble and its uses: the island of Tinos, with its centuries-old tradition of marble mining and craft; and Athens, which has an ancient and enduring connection to marble evident in its ubiquitous presence throughout the city. These photographs tell a story of extraction, craft, tradition, and how meaning is made and remade through marble as a material in the city.

Each book in the series includes newly commissioned writing as well a selection of perspectives, images, and references related to the Wattis’s year-long research seasons dedicated to single artists. Each book takes the work of a single artist as its point of departure and spirals outward from there to create an expansive and carefully edited ecosystem of ideas and voices. This third volume is informed by themes found in the work of Cecilia Vicuña, including ecofeminism, indigenous forms of knowledge, poetry and politics, dissolution and extinction, exile, dematerialization, regeneration, and environmental responsibility.

Résumé:
In the histories of art exhibitions that we know, LGBTQIA+ artists and curators have always been underexposed or forgotten. This new title in the PLURAL series focuses on these forgotten and hidden histories, by scrutinizing a wide variety of exhibitions and other presentations by LGBTQIA+ artists and curators. ''Queer exhibition histories'' is composed of case studies, interviews and essays that emphasize different queer exhibitions and their modes of presentation and archiving. Many of these projects were short-lived or were executed between the walls of the private or domestic space, far beyond the scope of any institutional recognition. Therefore, the exhibitions materialized on limited budgets, were hardly documented and received barely any media coverage. For this reason, the legacy of these projects is highly dependent on personal archives, memories and paraphernalia, whereof the entries are not always easy to find. The events were not only artistic, but they could equally be discursive, activist and educational, or serve as a tool for community building. At the intersection of queerness and contemporary art, ''Queer exhibition histories'' investigates how the efforts of LGBTQIA+ artists and curators have advanced their public presence.

Résumé:
The world today faces overwhelming ecological and social problems and the concern for material existence on earth is more pressing than ever. This book spells out various roles that visual artists and designers play facing these issues. Collective action is necessary and inevitable. This approach often changes the artist’s identity and working habits: from individuality and autonomy to collectivity and collaboration, both locally and globally. These developments have given rise to new kinds of collective art and design practices: artists work together with non-artists, make products for their local environment and take on multiple identities, such as researcher, community activist, computer hacker or business consultant. This volume looks at art practices across all continents that do not conform to a Western concept of art nor to traditional distinctions between art, design, research and activism—where the boundaries between art, design, research and activism become blurred or are dissolved.
