Résumé:
The changes which Information Technology has brought to all areas of our lives have been dramatic. Even in architecture it´s influence has been far-reaching, creating new processes opening up exciting new prospects. In this book, Peter Eisenman, Derrick de Kerckhove, and Antonino Saggio write boldly on the challenges which now face young architects. The IT Revolution offers opportunities which were previously undreamt of, but at the same time, danger lurks in the realm of virtuality with its implication of unlimited possibilities. Furio Barzon uses examples from contemporary architecture to underscore the three text contributions and also places them in the context of state of the art technology and future developments.

Résumé:
Since the famous competition for the Park La Villette in Paris where the participants included Bernard Tschumi, Peter Eisenman and Gilles Deleuze, the relationship between building and landscape has been dramatically transformed. Concepts such as metamorphosis and interaction, layers and fields are becoming as much a part of architectonic discourse as the practical designs and the realization. Author Paola Gregory examines this interplay between buildings and landscapes present in today´s architecture scene, illustrating her analysis with exciting examples including the ecological landscapes of James Wines and Greg Lynn, the virtual environments of Marcos Novak and Nox, buildings by Jean Nouvel and Toyo Ito which actively incorporate passers-by and surroundings by means of new media.

HISTAORMINA presents new concepts of architectural education and urban design through the lens of an intensive two-week workshop held in September of 2001. With the unique coastal hilltown of Taormina, Sicily as both subject and setting, the authors led a team of European and American students in an exploration that combined visual and conceptual design, historical references, critical discourse, and both local and global issues with innovative new methods of individual creativity and collaboration. The results are documented in an extensive series of photographs of experimental models and constructions and the working processes that produced them. These are accompanied by comments from the students and a text by the authors explaining the concepts behind this new approach and describing its implications for the future.

The MOVE organization was founded in the early 1970s by a man who called himself John Africa. The MOVE bombing was one of the most tragedic events in Philadelphia's long history, a tragedy that was only intensified by the city's response. The loss of life is permanent. The bond between people and place can be reforged through deliberate, sensitive intervention.

Résumé:
This book is based on a conference sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts with the Woodrow Wilson Center concerning strategies for the reuse of dead malls in America's first-ring suburbs. Originally celebrated as community centers, the substantial commercial success of the early suburban shopping center was fleeting, as subsequent generations of ever-larger malls have left behind a landscape of struggling and boarded- up shells. This pervasive condition is presented in the context of the history of public space and the shopping mall. The book includes essays by Robert Fishman, Benjamin Barber and Margaret Crawford and innovative projects for the strip and mixed-use developments by such architects as RoTo, Lewis, Tsurumaki, Lewis, ShoP and Gary Handel + Associates. A roundtable with developers and bankers on obstacles to the redevelopment of failed shopping centers is also included. The review of case studies and projective work is intended to foster a more serious examination of new models for making and using public space.

Résumé:
City planning is a concept which usually covers the wide range of events, processes and developments taking place in our cities, but individual plans and designs cannot do justice to the complex realities of the city. In "Induction Cities" the author aims to take the reader beyond our traditional understanding of city design to redefine our perception of design in this context. With the assistance of computers, a dynamic mechanism will be created which generates a result corresponding to the specific conditions and requirements stipulated. By this form of "meta-design" a greater degree of freedom is obtained than the conventional design methods provide. In this publication, this new theory and process is analysed, looking at the first computer-generated architecture in the world, the underground station "lidabashi" in Tokyo.
