Collage is an artistic language comprising found images, fragmentary forms, and unexpected juxtapositions. While it first gained status as high art in the early twentieth century, the past decade has seen a fresh explosion of artists using this dynamic and experimental approach to image making. Organised in an A-Z sequence by artist, the book features both well-known collagists, and a plethora of lesser-known names deserving of greater attention. Taking a broad definition – from analog cut-and-paste compositions and photomontages to digital composed imagery and animations – Vitamin C+ showcases 108 living artists who employ collage as a central part of their visual-art practice, as selected by 69 leading experts, including museum directors, curators, critics, and collectors. The survey also features an engaging and informative introduction by Yuval Etgar, an internationally renowned expert in the area.

Résumé:
Building/Art discusses changing ideas about the nature and function of the city as an essential cultural network, one that each of its inhabitants participates in, whether consciously or unconsciously. The city acts as a backdrop to everyday life and influences the ways in which individuals interact with a greater cultural community. How would life be different for us as individuals if we lived in a different kind of city? What interventions can be made at an architectural level to make our city a more engaging place to live? In this theoretical discussion and visual display of urbanism, vital connections are made between modernism as an international movement and its manifestations in Canadian architecture. With contributions from experts in diverse fields of inquiry, Building/Art offers a discussion of the dynamic relationship between form and culture in word and picture.

Résumé:
There has never been a more important time to understand how to make the best use of local natural resources and create buildings that do not rely on stripping our planet or transporting materials across the globe. First published in 2017, Habitat gathers the world's leading experts on vernacular architecture to examine how local buildings have stood the test of time and offer lessons for the future. Arranged by climate zone- Tropical, Dry, Temperate, Continental, and Polar- each regional section presents buildings in their environments, showing how climatic conditions and vegetation affect the evolution of building styles. This central part of Habitat is bookended by a range of essays exploring the economic and anthropological aspects of shelter, while the book's reference section offers information on materials science and engineering, including how buildings have been adapted to contend with natural disasters.

Résumé:
Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas produce interactive projects exploring the conflicts and contradictions of former Soviet republics and their recent transition to capitalism. Born in Lithuania and now living in Vilnius, these artists use the city as a catalyst and a starting point for their analysis of the various impacts caused by a new economic, social and political model on different sectors and generations in society. Developping over different stages, their projects are characterised by the key role played by the idea of the archive, the engagement of experts in different fields (design, music, architecture), and the participation of diverse communities and collective actions. This catalogue of their recently held first retrospective documents all their projects up to date, includes two essays by Bartomeu Mari and Lars Bang Larsen, a biography, and a list of works in the exhibition.

Résumé:
This catalogue pioneers a new approach to the art museum exhibition, using the power of design to explore how we experience the world through our varied senses. Six international design teams have collaborated with experts in neuroscience and cognitive, motor, and sensory issues to create site-specific, immersive, and participatory environments—one of which is the publication itself. These revolutionary interpretations across various media will foster research intended to push our understanding of sensory perception and encourage new ways of conceiving, installing, and experiencing exhibitions. Designed by Laurie Haycock Makela, a leader in experimental graphic design, the book plays with the multiple meanings of the word “speechless,” exploring the evolution of the project, documenting the installations, and offering portraits of the creative individuals who defined this extraordinary undertaking. Topics range from personal connections to issues of inclusion, diversity, accessibility, and empathy.

Résumé:
The world is out of joint, so much so that disobeying should be an urgent act for everyone. In this provocative essay, Frédéric Gros explores the roots of political obedience, social conformity, economic subjection, respect for authorities, constitutional consensus. Examining the various styles of obedience provides tools to study, invent and induce new forms of civic disobedience and lyrical protest. Nothing can be taken for granted: neither supposed certainties nor social conventions, economic injustice or moral conviction. Thinking philosophically requires us to never accept truths and generalities that seem obvious—it restores a sense of political responsibility. At a time when the decisions of experts are presented as the result of icy statistics and anonymous calculations, disobeying becomes an assertion of humanity. To philosophise is to disobey. This book is a call for critical democracy and ethical resistance.

Résumé:
Both a learning platform and a pedagogical experiment, Urban School Ruhr is built upon the foundational belief that experts and amateurs can, together, build a space of critical exchange and knowledge transfer. USR prioritises exchange and dialogue that is not necessarily attached to specific outcomes, results or interventions in built reality, instead understanding conversation as the first step to co-producing cities. "Explorations in Urban Practice", the first edition in the Urban School Ruhr Series, draws from and reflects upon USR’s experiences to date whilst also looking to the future of urban practice in contemporary cities. The book presents the reader with key current questions in the field: how can we learn city making? How should we understand the political concept of commoning for this purpose? And how can we discuss intervention as a strategy for enacting urban change?
