Résumé:
Canada's foremost architectural office Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects, founded in 1987 in Toronto, is one of most innovative architectural offices in North America today. They have made a name for themselves both for their integrated design process embodying collaboration with experts, clients and future users as well as the diversity of aesthetically refined and finely detailed designs. The work ranges from cultural institutions such as the Toronto International Film Festival and Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis to ecologically innovative concepts such as Manitoba Hydro Place in Winnipeg. A respectful approach toward the integration of heritage buildings is also a characteristic feature, illustrated by the designs for the Royal Conservatory and the Gardiner Museum in Toronto. Finally, educational and research facilities are a strong focus in KPMB's work, exemplified by campus projects in in Waterloo, Toronto, and Montréal, as well as future projects for the MIT and Princeton.

Résumé:
Is there an enduring bond between philosophical thought and the earth, or is philosophy’s task to escape the planetary horizon? And what is the connection between the empirical earth, the contingent material support of human thinking, and the abstract ‘world’ that is the condition for a ‘whole’ of thought? Real and imaginary geographies and cartographies have played a dual role in philosophy, serving both as governing metaphor and as ultimate grounding for philosophical thought; but urgent contemporary concerns introduce new problems for geophilosophy: planetary political, technological, military, and financial mutations have scrambled territorial formations, and scientific predictions now present us with the apocalyptic scenario of a planet without human thought. Collapse VI brings together philosophers, theorists, eco-critics, leading scientific experts in climate change, and artists whose work interrogates the link between philosophical thought, geography and cartography, in order to create a portrait of the present state of ‘planetary thought’.

Résumé:
The category of the museum, as it has been understood by museums of contemporary art over the last 30 years, is in need of a reassessment. This volume reflects on the museum of contemporary art in all its paradoxical characteristics. Over four chapters consisting of three theoretical essays and a section dedicated to discussion, questions regarding the roles and tasks of the museum of contemporary art are addressed. The anthology discusses the museum of contemporary art’s double character as a site of production as well as conservation, and emphasizes its relation to different public spheres, also exploring ways of dealing with the standards that emerge from the practices of collecting, organizing and educating. Included are contributions from art historians and cultural experts Claire Bishop, Büro trafo.K, Martha Buskirk, Beatriz Colomina, Bettina Funcke, Adrian Heathfield, Christian Kravagna, Oliver Marchart, Donald Preziosi, Sophia Prinz, Beat Wyss and Artur Zmijewski.

Résumé:
"Emerging Nature" documents the work of the Argentinian architect, graphic designer and industrial designer Emilio Ambasz. The publication discusses his projects ranging from buildings and urban gardens including green facade vertical gardens to exhibition designs and everyday objects. The comprehensive volume features essays by various experts, interviews, a wealth of color photographs and drawings. Ambasz’s main concern is to integrate nature and construction into architectural design, which is why he is regarded as one of the most important pioneers of Green Architecture. In his work a combination of landscape and architecture emerges, in which his respect for the environment and ecological sustainability becomes clear. A prime example of this is the Fukuoka Prefectural International Hall in Japan: a building that houses more than 100,000 m2 of exhibition spaces, theaters and offices is also an open green area in the form of a hanging garden.

Résumé:
This book brings together a diverse range of exemplary architectural projects from across the globe. Carefully selected and examined by a team of experts, these projects demonstrate innovative approaches that respond to the challenges and potentials of contemporary conditions and contexts. One guiding principle of this cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture is the importance of plurality. Since its inception the Award has aimed to be inclusive and to embrace the engagement of a diverse group of users. But equally, it has sought projects that explore a plurality of methods and architectures in achieving that goal. Here, the authors of the essays use that productive tension between architecture and plurality not only to provide a framework for the examination of the projects but also to explore the intellectual and projective means by which architecture and plurality can find other common grounds in the future.

A great deal of Aalto-related research has been conducted over the years in different parts of the world. Some of these contributions have appeared in compendiums, seminar and congress publications and similar works. Many studies, however, have remained unpublished or known inly to a small circle of experts. 'Aalto Studies' is the Alvar Aalto Museum's new scholarly series. It seeks to compile existing research while also providing a channel of publication for new international Aalto research that is continuously growing in extent. This is the first number of 'Aalto studies' a collection of seven studies by Renja Suominen-Kokkonen PhD. Over the cours of several years, the author's research has particularly focused on the role of Aino Aalto alongside her maestro husband, thus expanding our understanding of Aalto and his works. Résumé:
In "Campus and the city", experts present and comment on current trends in campus design world-wide. Details of thirty outstanding campuses - be these inner-city, greenfield, high-tech or corportate - shed light on possible future trends and how these relate to the urban context. Restructuring outdated postwar campuses and establishing new university and commercial districts, especially in emerging Asian nations, requires fresh approaches and a clear vision of spatial and programmatic interrelationships. In addition, corporations and academic institutions alike are increasingly seeking strategies capable of encouraging innovation and synergy in their research centres, often drawing on the existing potential of their surroundings. This volume addresses important aspects of new conceptions of the campus - ranging from forms of spatial organisation that promote internal knowledge and social interaction to different types of urban design strategies aimed at creating sustainable centres of knowledge and learning that are responsive to society's ever changing demands.

Résumé:
The construction and design of school buildings in Germany faces major challenges. Particularly in metropolitan areas, student numbers are continuously rising and, according to all forecasts, population growth is set to continue in the coming years. This is why new school buildings, including extensions and renovations of existing school buildings, are one of the central topics of investment policy throughout Germany today. Approximately 5.5 billion euros will be spent from 2017 to 2026 on the refurbishment and/or expansion of existing schools; about 40 new school buildings will be erected. Against this backdrop, the exhibition initiated and curated by Beate Engelhorn at Aedes Architecture Forum presents 12 contemporary school buildings in Europe that are exemplary for the implementation of current educational and urban planning models. The exhibition will be introduced by a two-day conference with numerous contributions from experts from Germany and abroad.
