Description:
This project series documents the design of Cité Collégiale in Ottawa, Ontario from in 1991. The project number assigned by the office is unidentifiable. This project consisted of a competition entry for the first French language community college to be built in Ontario. The design proposed focused on the balance between the natural landscape of the site, located on Montreal Road at Aviation Parkway, the rigor of the study program and the relaxation of student life. Large wooded areas surrounding the campus would be preserved and four functional outdoor spaces would be created: La Place des Festivals (an esplanade), the theatre (for outdoor festivities), Le Carrefour des Étudiants (the student square), and le Foyer (next to the cafeteria). The campus also proposed la Grande Galerie, a triple-height space filled with natural light to serve as the main area where students could meet and study. Two types of school buildings were included in the proposal, consisting of a long, rectangular building for classrooms and offices, and the other, a less formal, open space with classrooms, amphitheatres, studios and laboratories. The scheme had two main entrances, with a large central tower that was visible when arriving from either direction. This was not the winning entry for the competition and the campus was eventually built by Brook, Brisbin and Baynon. The project is recorded through drawings, presentation paintings and a model dating from 1991. The drawings include site condition maps, sketches, perspectives, plans, elevations, axonometric drawings and presentation panels.

Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for Ottawa City Hall, located on Sussex Drive, on Green Island, surrounded by Ottawa and Rideau Rivers, in Ottawa, Ontario. Oberlander worked on this project in 1989-1994 with architect Moshe Safdie. The old City Hall, a heritage building, was retained, and the new landscape design had to include the old structures. Oberlander landscape concept was to create a park-like space used for strolling as well as public functions. She also designed a courtyard with water features, including a pool, trees and flowers. The project also included a play area for the day care centre of the City Hall. The project was completed in 1994. The project series comprises sketches, design development drawings, such as grading plans, landscape plans, sections, elevations and details for the play area, working drawings, including site grading plans, and presentation drawings. The project is also documented through concept notes by Oberlander, specifications, correspondence, including with architects, clients, and consultants, financial documents and photographs of the construction.

Description:
This project series documents a proposal for Palmerston Place in Scarborough, Ontario from 1989-1992. The office identified the project number as 8909. This project, commissioned by Frum Development Group and headed by Bruce Kuwabara, proposed a mixed-use development that would span several blocks and integrate local transit stations. Located at the corner of Markham Road and Sheppard Avenue, the development would include residential areas, retail spaces, office buildings, a bus station and a subway station. The project investigated several schemes, all of which included the creation of a new grid road system, parks, courtyards and extensive landscaping. The development was divided into several phases to be carried out over a five to seven year period. This project was never built. The project is recorded through drawings, a site photograph and textual records dating from 1989-1991. The drawings are mostly originals and include sketches, model drawings, presentation drawings, plans, elevations and sections. A large number of the plans are schemes that investigate the general site concept. The textual records consist of a description of the project concept.

Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's project for proposed improvements to the garden of the Rotman Residence on Forest Hill Road in Toronto, Ontario. Orberlander worked on this project in 1994. The Georgian style residence was originally design by architect John Lyle in 1924. As the residence was sited perpendicularly to the street, Oberlander's landscape concept was to create a series of garden from the street to the back of the property, which included terraces for entertaining at the front of the property, a rose garden and lawn for strolling. She also created a birch trees walk with ascending grass stairs. Oberlander was later commissioned in 1996-1997 to combine the existing garden with an extensionof the property after the acquisition of a lot next door by the owners of the residence. She extended the birch walk and created a oval-shaped lawn accessed through a wrought iron gate. The project series also contains material related to later restorations to the garden, including an alteration to the garden in 2013 to improve the view from the living room. The project series contains design development drawings, including landscape plans, planting plans, and grading plans, and also a landscape presentation drawing. The project is also documents through photographs of the landscaping, research material, correspondence with clients and contractors, concept notes by Oberlander, specifications, and meetings notes.
