Résumé:
''Come Closer: The Biennale Reader,'' published on the occasion of the inaugural Prague biennale, considers the present via counter-hegemonic readings of the past. The book explores various perspectives of class, race, and gender differences in post-socialist states, past and present. In societies today that can seem fragmented, alienated, and sealed-off, a feeling of "us" and "them" can potentially emerge. The reliance on a common language to bring people closer often does the opposite, leading to feelings of contempt, anxiety, and fear. By drawing attention to themes of intimacy, care, and empathy, the contributions in this book search for new types of communication that can bring people together. Like language, art can be used to mediate these differences, and to examine issues relating to how people coexist in society.

Résumé:
'Reconstructions: Architecture and Blackness in America' is an urgent call for architects to accept the challenge of reconceiving and reconstructing our built environment rather than continue giving shape to buildings, infrastructure and urban plans that have, for generations, embodied and sustained anti-Black racism in the United States. The architects, designers, artists and writers who were invited to contribute to this book — and to the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art for which it serves as a 'field guide'— reimagine the legacies of race-based dispossession in 10 American cities (Atlanta; Brooklyn, New York; Kinloch, Missouri; Los Angeles; Miami; Nashville; New Orleans; Oakland; Pittsburgh; and Syracuse) and celebrate the ways individuals and communities across the country have mobilized Black cultural spaces, forms and practices as sites of imagination, liberation, resistance, care and refusal.

Résumé:
For centuries, wrought iron was worked with care and craft into objects as diverse as shop signs, balcony railings, and dog collars. This volume brings together thirty-six unique pieces of wrought iron from the celebrated collection of the Musée Le Secq des Tournelles in Rouen, France, and combines stunning photography with fresh and engaging scholarship. Salvaged by the founders of the Musée Le Secq during a period when wrought iron was being rapidly discarded and replaced with modern materials, these objects tell stories of preindustrial times and highlight the importance of iron in our shared past. An essay by Kathleen M. Morris offers a contemporary perspective on these extraordinary works of art, while current and former curators of the Musée Le Secq provide fascinating insights into the magnificent holdings of the museum’s renowned collection.

Résumé:
Never shying away from controversy, Obomsawin’s films have played a critical role in exposing ongoing systemic bias towards Indigenous populations—from fishing rights and education to health care and treaty violations. Obomsawin is also a graphic artist, and she incorporates her often dream-inspired etchings and prints into many of her films. This volume includes illuminating essays exploring Obomsawin’s practice and mission as well as personal commentary from collaborators, archival materials, and photographs from the filmmaker’s personal life and professional exploits. As Obomsawin closes in on her ninth decade of life—and fifth decade behind the camera—this beautifully illustrated record of her astounding body of work and tireless efforts on behalf of Indigenous peoples and culture is an inspiring celebration of the power of film to dramatically change the course of history.

Résumé:
This book invites us to rethink architectural and urban models, prioritizing not so much the technical, formal and abstract knowledge sought by urban planners, as the public and civic dimension of citizens’ experience when they try to care for themselves, for each other or for the environment. After decades of industrialization, our cities, in their physical and governmental dimensions, are productivity-oriented places. Cities are, nonetheless, a more hostile environment for non-productive activities: being able to choose where to sit and rest, use a public toilet, drink clean water without paying or breathe unpolluted air. The privilege that productive activities have enjoyed and those who exercise them has led to the denial of the various biological and subjective characteristics of its inhabitants and the multidimensional character of the city, becoming a cultural principle and a political practice.

Résumé:
Over the past twenty years, Camille Henrot has developed a critically acclaimed practice that moves seamlessly between drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, and film. ''Mother Tongue'' is Henrot’s first publication focused solely on painting and drawing, bringing together over 200 works from the series ''System of Attachment'', ''Wet Job'', and ''Soon'', created between 2018 and 2022. This recent body of work addresses the ambivalent nature of care and the tension between the simultaneous developmental need for attachment and independence, beginning at infancy and continuing throughout life. Her deeply personal and intimate interrogations ultimately relate to broader questions such as the expectations placed on mothers and the representation of the female body. This richly illustrated catalogue is accompanied by texts from Emily LaBarge, Legacy Russell, Marcus Steinweg, Hélene Cixous, Seamus Kealy, and a conversation with Camille Henrot and curator Julika Bosch.

Résumé:
Every year The Best Dutch Book Design are put on exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Each book has been submitted by its publisher, designer or printer, or by the person who or body which commissioned it in the first place, and they are all displayed on a stage for the public's attention to be drawn to their handsome appearance and the ways in which solutions have been found in their designing, printing and binding. In fact, the whole point is the care and attention that can still be devoted to the production of printed matter in these hurried and often careless and indifferent times. These are 'good' books, not so much because of what they contain but precisely because of their striking size, format, cover, binding and/or interior- all of which may themselves be an immediate reflection of the contents.
