L'anarchitetto (1973)
AP207.S3.SS01
Description:
The sub-series documents the publication "L'anarchitetto”, written by Pettena and published by Guaraldi, in Florence, in 1973. The book consists of an essay in which Pettena describes himself as an "anarchitect" as he sees architecture more as a metaphor of the creative condition that starts with the intention of "making architecture" but ends up making art. He also states his refusal to "to recognize the borders between disciplines." [1] The sub-series contains pictures of Pettena's projects to be selected from for the book and scans of "L'anarchitetto”. Sources: Pettena, Gianni. "L'an architetto : portrait of the artist as a young architect", Guaraldi, Florence, 1973, 57 pages. Description:
- These drawings are for a time capsule in the wall of Wayfarers' Chapel, Palos Verdes, California. The time capsule is referred to as a "vault" in the inscription on this drawing and in the dedicatory inscription on the cornerstone. The shape and disposition of the inscription plaque is based on the equilateral parallelogram grid unit of the chapel. The grid unit is inscribed on several orthographic drawings (eg. DR1987:0530) and is described by Lloyd Wright in the architect's statement (DR1987:0869:011:009). A small elevation shows the cornerstone in situ.

AP140.S2.SS2
Description:
Sub-series documents "dead projects", by the successive firms of Stirling and Gowan; James Stirling and Partner; James Stirling, Michael Wilford, and Associates; and Michael Wilford and Partners. Most of these projects were for locations in the United States, but also include locations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Iran, France, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the Soviet Union, Canada, Austria and Switzerland. Material in this sub-series was produced between 1963 and probably 2002. Sub-series contains textual records, such as notes, proposals, correspondence with clients or consultants, reports, building programs, contracts or agreements. It also contains maps of sites and cadastral plans used as reference, and site plans.
