DR1983:0024
Description:
- This rug design is composed of a long horizontal axis bisected by a shorter vertical axis, the ends of which are, in turn, bisected by short horizontal bars. The modules used seem to be based on the square and the golden mean. Although some of the larger areas surrounding the intersection are filled in with colour, some of the smaller spaces are left untouched, but numbered. These numbers are colour codes that refer to a rug colour chart composed of kraft paper with dyed wool samples tied onto the cards and numbered. The original rugs were made in Austria (Robertson, p. 65).
