Résumé:
In this engaging new book, design theorist Louise Schouwenberg (born 1954) and designer Hella Jongerius (born 1963) examine the meaning and agency of objects, exploring how things act as mediators between people and the world both in everyday life and in the context of the museum. As technology continues to change these relationships, Schouwenberg and Jongerius thoughtfully consider the agency of our objects. Questioning the market's obsession with novelty in design, the authors try to develop criteria for recognizing true cultural innovation. What distinguishes novelty for the sake of novelty from something truly new? Designed by the legendary Irma Boom, the book itself is a love letter to creative design.

Résumé:
By turns historical, critical, and personal, this book examines the use of art—and love—as a resource amid the recent wave of shootings by American police of innocent black women and men. Darby English attends to a cluster of artworks created in or for our tumultuous present that address themes of racial violence and representation idiosyncratically, neither offering solutions nor accommodating shallow narratives about difference. For English, the consideration of art is a paradigm of social life, because art is something we must share. To Describe a Life is an invitation to rethink what life in ongoing crisis is and can be—and, indeed, to discover how art can help.

Résumé:
The extensive oeuvre of the architect Karl Schwanzer (1918-1975) is characterized by a near inexhaustible inventiveness as well as a love of the crafts and carefully selected materials. What remains of his work? What has disappeared? How does the fabric of buildings change over time? Stefan Olah has taken up the trail in search of the architect's work. As architectural photographer he captures current details of buildings-many years after their construction: close-ups serve to illustrate the architect's design approach. The precision of the large color photographs corresponds to Schwanzer's clever designs. The book is intended as a visual commentary on his creative designs, which include buildings and furniture.

Résumé:
"Other Russias" is the first collection of graphic journalism by artist and activist Victoria Lomasko. A fixture at Moscow's protests and political trials, Lomasko illuminates the inequality and injustice at the heart of contemporary Russian society and gives voice to Russia's many voiceless citizens. Not content to remain in the capital, she travels the country, visiting schools in dying villages; interviewing sex workers in foundering industrial towns; teaching children at juvenile prisons to draw, all while drawing their stories. Her portraits allow readers to see these people as more than words on paper and to see them as she does: with dignity, compassion, and love.

Space is reserved for whimsy at the Benjamenta College of Art, and because you feel both lost and safe, the Benjamenta College of Art's real existence may be in question. May we all enjoy a Benjamenta College of Art in our lifetimes.

Résumé:
The collective trauma of the pandemic has become an excuse for global capital to accelerate the total commodification of everyday life. Everything is for sale. There is more merchandise than love, more sponsored content than truth. No society in human history has demanded so many people be such active participants in producing the contemporary. No contemporary has ever been so aggressively monetised. As a coping mechanism, many amongst us have decided to check out from reality altogether; preferring to inhabit tailor-made fantasies and simulations. But only children believe that closing their eyes renders them invisible to monsters. When the monsters are real, closing our eyes rather increases the danger.
