Résumé:
Magnago Lampugani’s slender Fabrikstrasse 12 construction gleams in the rays of sunlight without any glare. The white Carrara marble, blue awnings and delicate window parapets radiate lightness and joie de vivre – a style which also infuses the Dodici – the restaurant included in the project, whose colour scheme, furnishings and wall’s hanging with old photographs, greet its guests. The architect’s refined design for the Novartis Campus which also includes office spaces is thoroughly examined here. Colour photographs are presented alongside detailed plans, elevations, and essays written by specialists on specific aspects of the building, including signage, building services and work places.

Résumé:
An A–Z glossary of utopian structures, zones and acts in art and beyond, Utopics is a guide to artistically “living otherwise”—whether through imaginative design solutions (Andrea Zittel, Lang & Baumann), artist republics (Ian Hamilton Finlay's Little Sparta, Robert Filliou's République Géniale), temporary utopias (Atelier Van Lieshout's AVL-Ville) or extraordinary spaces (James Turrell's Roden Crater) and situations (Rirkrit Tiravanija). Also itemized here are potentially utopian entities such as bees, islands and squats, plus more theoretical forays such as Rudolf Steiner's educational philosophy and Buckminster Fuller's utopian proposals. Sporting a wraparound poster dustjacket and bound in a glittering night-sky cloth, Utopics shows that by acts of creativity both intimate and epic, and by locating the nooks at the perimeters of society, the strictures of contemporary living can be fruitfully sabotaged.

Résumé:
Foresight is the eleventh in an annual series of publications that features the best young practicing architects as selected by the Architectural League of New York in their annual Young Architects competition. This year's theme, "Foresight," refers to an ability to survey, research, and engage the present toward particular, desired outcomes in the future. Our lives are inundated by forecasts about the world climate, the economy, sociopolitical trends, the housing market's rise and fall, and all kinds of bubbles bursting. Everyone has become an expert in predicting the future, just as the very idea of a better future has, for the first time in recent memory, come into question. The competition winners—Bureau E.A.S.T., Ether Ship, ex.studio, Fake Industries, Frida Escobedo Lopez, and Phu Hoang Office—present forward-thinking projects that imagine an effective role for architecture in the future.
