This is the third issue of Anima, and it has a new format and look, thanks to Cabinet Milano. They have worked hard to create a magazine that offers substance as well as a striking graphic identity. In this edition, Dalia Al-Dujaili writes about the essential role that design and architecture play in the struggle of the Palestinian people to protect their identity from erasure. She speaks to designer and architect Lara Salous, artist Jordan Nassar, and brothers Yousef and Elias Anastas, who are partners at AAU ANASTAS, and co-founders of Local Industries, Radio alHara and The Wonder Cabinet.

LAN (Local Architecture Network) rethinks the economy of sustainability beyond its technical aspects in the ‘'PARIS XVIII’ housing project. Zeller & Moye explore the row house layout in ‘'La Ribera'’, drawing inspiration from the traditional Mexican vecindad, centered around a shared courtyard. Onsitestudio analyzes the formal and functional contradictions in the “newly invented tradition” of a sports facility: the ‘'Sassuolo Training Centre'’. Jean-Benoît Vétillard Architecture presents six design iterations before arriving at the final scheme for ‘Maison Nana’. Andreas Angelidakis shares an extensive archive of concrete façade studies and other architectural objects for a ‘'House in Evia'’.

Résumé:
An extinction burst occurs when bad behaviour intensifies before stopping. Undesirable qualities can become entrenched through positive reinforcement. But if the world changes and no longer provides us with the same feedback, we lose our minds: to the privileged, equality feels like persecution. Extinction bursts are forms of active denial; refusals to accept the past as gone, and desperate attempts to preserve the potential of an impossible reality. Today, modernity’s worst tendencies return intensified: patriarchy, racism, plutocracy, colonialism, exploitation, rentierism, genocide. Even attempts at redemption, restoration and stasis accelerate the decline.

The thematic subject of this issue, while not dogmatic or narrow, does include a number of dogs and refers broadly to a correction of our estrangement from animals. The best "fixers" for this limiting, damaging gulf—between humans and animals—are artists. "Estrangement" is chosen with deliberation; it wasn’t always so. Let’s believe instead in a Paradisal prehistory and make efforts to return there. So: artist, animals, artist and animals.
