Résumé:
Over the last 20 years, Manuel and Isabelle Der Hagopian have lived between Singapore, Vietnam, and Switzerland. The couple have built various dwellings in each location to house their lives and redefine their domesticity as a fundamental need. Each “nest” arises from intimate conversations between them and the spaces, giving birth to meticulously-crafted domains and lovingly-curated interiors echoing the spirit of the local culture. 'NESTS' features six of these dwellings—Seng Poh, TB80, Bi Khi Ni, Thi Sach, Beaumont, and Diablay De—as seen through the lens of Khoo Guo Jie. The photographer’s images of the life and love that imbue these spaces have been curated into booklets that are designed to embody the unique character and materiality of each nest. Together, they weave a voyage across different habitats and offer an introspective journey back home, in all the senses.

What makes us human? We are all connected, but do we feel lonely? Does democracy still work? Are cities for everyone? Should the planet be a design project? If Mars is the answer, what is the question? Who wants to live forever? The world of tomorrow is shaped by emerging design and the technology of today. Bringing together a range of objects either newly released or in development, "The Future Starts Here" begins to imagine where our society might be headed. Cute but intelligent robots, massive unmanned aircraft that deliver internet access, crowdfunded buildings, tools printed in space, mysterious black boxes that understand human genetic codes--how can these objects affect the way we live, learn, and love? And how are they challenging our understanding of what it means to be an individual, a citizen, a crowd, or a species?

No matter where we live city, country, oceanside, ormountains?there are wonders that we walk past every day. "Unseen City" widens the pinhole of our perspective by allowing us to view the world from the high-altitude eyes of a turkey vulture and the distinctly low-altitude eyes of a snail. The narrative allows us to eavesdrop on the comically frenetic life of a squirrel and peer deep into the past with a ginkgo biloba tree. Each of these organisms has something unique to tell us about our neighborhoods and, chapter by chapter, "Unseen City" takes us on a journey that is part nature lesson and part love letter to the world’s urban jungles. With the right perspective, a walk to the subway can be every bit as entrancing as a walk through a national park.

Résumé:
In this latest work, art historian T. J. Clark sets out to investigate the different ways painting has depicted the dream of God's kingdom come: heaven descended to earth. He goes back to the late Middle Ages and Renaissance- to Giotto in Padua, Bruegel facing the horrors of religious war, Poussin painting the Sacraments, and Veronese unfolding the human comedy, in particular his inscrutable Allegory of Love. Was it ultimately to painting's advantage that in an age of orthodoxy and enforced censorship (threats of hellfire, burnings at the stake) artists found ways reflect on the powers and limitations of religion without putting their thoughts into words? In conclusion Clark brings us into the Nuclear Age with Picasso's Fall of Icarus, made for UNESCO in 1958, which already seems to signal, or even prescribe, an age when all futures are dead.

Résumé:
A culmination of four years of photographing throughout Oregon, Washington and Northern California, Sawdust Mountain focuses on the tenuous relationship between industries reliant upon natural resources and the communities they support. Timber and salmon are the bedrock of a regional Northwest identity, but the environmental impact of these declining industries has been increasingly at odds with the contemporary ideal of sustainability. In this, his second book, Johnson reveals a landscape imbued with an uncertain future--no longer the region of boomtowns built upon the riches of massive old-growth forests. Johnson, a Seattle native, describes his photographs as, "a melancholy love letter of sorts, my own personal ramblings..." Through this poetic approach, Sawdust Mountain records a region affected by historic economic complexities and, by extension, one aspect of our fraught relationship with the environment in the twenty-first century.

Résumé:
LA-based Canadian artist Karen Lofgren (born 1976) gathers a selection of notes, dialogues and annotated works. In doing so, her living field work transforms into encounters that shape a feminist and decolonial perspective, moving through psychedelics, erotica and interspecies love affairs. Considering works from an international practice, this compendium connects scientific fields to the spirit realm, leaving space for the unknown and the unknowable. It includes dialogues with Mexican vocalist and performer Carmina Escobar, who relates empathetically to nature and the body; Peruvian feminist art historian, curator and writer Florencia Portocarrero; and Dutch curator and writer Marjolein van der Loo, who brings a passion for ecology and social agendas. The result is the creation of an intimate space where rituals, history and mythology look to the construction of a greater consciousness over time, forming relationships between cultural systems and other wild systems.

Résumé:
From a veteran writer and activist comes a concise yet potent guide to standing up to the myriad tyrannies of our current political landscape. We live in a time where independent thinking, love of literature and ideas, and passion for human expression are all under attack from a ruthless and uncaring government and a culture that values only immediate gratification and digital flash. In "On resistance," Curtis White offers spiritual hope and intellectual fortification for those in despair about the bankruptcy of American life. Drawing on a range of books, films, essays, and artworks, White shows how our rich collective literary heritage gives us mental ammunition for our fight against the forces that would reduce us all to commodities and consumers. In doing so, he has penned a new classic in the noble history of American polemics.

Résumé:
A reproduction of a 1938 photobook Roland Penrose made for Lee Miller as they traveled the world at the outset of World War II. In 1938, as Europe prepared for war, Roland Penrose and Lee Miller made a journey together through the Balkans. Penrose was a painter, author, and curator. Miller, previously a model, was a brilliant photographer. As they traveled, Penrose created pictures and took notes, and on their return produced a charming handmade photobook for Miller—a surrealist love poem, drawn from his own memories and records. This special facsimile edition of the book Penrose wrote for Miller has an important place in the history of surrealist literature, and it provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of two artists and their journey of discovery in a world that would soon be transformed forever.
