Projet
AP018.S1.1978.PR10
Description:
This project series documents an addition to the Toronto Sun building in downtown Toronto from 1978-1980. The office identified the project number as 7816. From 1973-1975, Parkin Architects Planners designed and constructed the Toronto Sun press plant and office building at 333 King Street East. This project documents an office addition made to the original building. This consisted of the addition of three floors to the existing three-storey structure. The top floor, the sixth, was the main focus of this project and included the executive suite with offices, a boardroom, a sunroom, and a private cafeteria. The project is recorded through drawings and textual materials dating from 1979-1982. Most drawings are reprographic copies arranged within the textual materials. The textual records consist of correspondence, site and meeting reports, financial records, change orders, contractor and consultancy records, supplementary instructions, specifications, tender documents, schedules, interoffice letters, a project notebook and project agendas. File AP018.S1.1978.PR10.002 contains an index to the textual records, which was created by the office.

Description:
This project series documents an office building located at 1500 Don Mills Road in North York, Ontario from 1981-1982. The office identified the project number as 8107. This project consisted of a twelve storey office building, approximately 286,939 square feet in size. The design also included basement parking and a mechanical penthouse. This was to be a second office building to the one already located at that address. In 1976, Parkin Architects Planners began work on two phases of development for the property at 1500 Don Mills for their client Marathon Realty. Phase I consisted of an office building. This project, a second office building, was planned for Phase II, along with a parking structure. It is not clear from the materials in this project series whether the building was ever constructed. The project is recorded through drawings and textual records dating from 1981-1982. The drawings show site plans, typical floor plans and area calculations. The textual records consist of documents dealing with the rezoning of the property.

Projet
AP194.S1.1997.PR01
Description:
Project records document OCEAN North’s design for their competition entry for the Töölö Football Stadium in Helsinki in 1997. The project was titled Open Arena by OCEAN North. The site for the football stadium was in the Töölö neighbourhood and adjoining the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, located in a park area. OCEAN North’s entry was a building that would integrate with its natural surroundings while being able to accommodate a variety of activities and events. The structure has three topological surfaces that were devised through an iterative process: initial drawings made in Adobe Illustrator, modelling made with form*Z and manually transferred on Plexiglas sections, modifications made on the Plexiglas sections captured back into the CAD drawing, etc. At some point in the design process, the Channelling Systems approach was developed and used to analyze the structure’s dynamic relationship with its surroundings. Records show different stages of the design process and include at least one photograph of the Plexiglas sections referenced above. Digital files are grouped according to their function: Channelling Systems analysis, 2D graft spatial exploration, and plans and sections. There are also libraries of images and textures which may have been used for other drawings and models. Over half of the files are raster or vector images likely created by CAD software. This includes images of renderings. CAD drawings are in the native Microstation format, although one is in form*Z format. Textual records present the project and for the most part are the accompanying documentation for the competition entry, including legends for plans and sections. Timestamps for some of the digital files extend past the date of the competition. It is likely that these dates reflect when files were transferred to the Jaz drive for storage.

AP164.S1.2002.D16
Description:
The project series documents the competition entry for the development of the International fair of the South, in the municipality of Getafe, Spain. The firm identified this project as number 159a. “The project puts the emphasis on two esencial [sic] questions: on the one hand a system which allows to resolve the fair’s pavillons simple and elegantly joining criteria of light, structure and water in a system of constructive rationality and average economy. On the other han[d a]n organization of the public and constructed space in phases which allow to understand the technology area of the south as something complete and shaped since the first of them has been developed. The proposed exhibition pavillions [sic] come from a technical reasoning based in the balance of structural width, central light and drainage of the roof, a result of several projects of similar scale which the office has developed in the last years.” (ARCH270975) Abalos & Herreros initially grouped this project with the competition Fira 2000 - Barcelona (AP164.S1.2002.D14). Documenting the project are presentation drawings, project descriptions, correspondence, studies, competition documents and specifications.
