"The House of one" is a bold proposal by three local communities to build a house of prayer and learning for Jews, Christians, and Muslims in central Berlin. The design, which was the result of an international competition won by architects Kuehn Malvezzi in 2012, is to be built on the existing foundations of St. Petri Church, the first documented site in Berlin's history. The concept of the House of One is based on dialogue and an understanding of other faiths. As well as being a place of worship, it will be an educational center open to everyone. The sequence of spaces follows the principle of multiplicity within unity and heterogeneity within a single building. Although their rituals are different, coming together around a central hall in one building aspires to the universal.

Résumé:
"Coincidence" is the debut photobook by photographer Jeremy Liebman, exploring family, memory, and ideas of home through black-and-white photography. Spanning Dallas, Texas; Brooklyn, New York; and the English countryside, the book follows three generations of the Liebman family, capturing their lives as they unfold in parallel. After more than a decade contributing to the visual aesthetic of Apartamento magazine across 16 features, Jeremy turns his lens inward to create an intimate family portrait. The book centres on a poignant dialogue between his late father, the photographer Richard Liebman, and his young grandchildren: as they reach out to the world, Jeremy’s father’s grasp on language slowly loosens and his hold on memory slowly wanes. Somewhere between them, Jeremy finds an aperture—the possibility that they are, momentarily, seeing the world in a similar way.

A pioneering figure in kinetic and programmed art, Gianni Colombo anticipated many of the themes in today’s contemporary art. This book covers Colombo’s artistic career from 1959-1980. Colombo’s practice aimed at overcoming the traditional notion of art as an object to contemplate, in order to create work that requires the active involvement of the viewer. From his tactile pieces and works in motion of the late 1950s, to his immersive light installations of the 1960, into his mature large-scale environments, he conceived art as the place for an experience which belongs to both the body and the mind. His investigation of space is led by this idea of changing the spectator’s conventional relationship with reality, both physically and psychically, encompassing also a broad dialogue with technology and architecture.

Thousands of citizens are in line for . . . nobody knows quite what, but the rumors are flying. Leather or suede? Jackets, jeans? Turkish, Swedish, maybe even American? It doesn’t matter–if anything is on sale, you better line up to buy it. Sorokin’s tour de(...)

Thousands of citizens are in line for . . . nobody knows quite what, but the rumors are flying. Leather or suede? Jackets, jeans? Turkish, Swedish, maybe even American? It doesn’t matter–if anything is on sale, you better line up to buy it. Sorokin’s tour de force of ventriloquism and formal daring tells the whole story in snatches of unattributed dialogue, adding up to nothing less than the real voice of the people, overheard on the street as they joke and curse, fall in and out of love, slurp down ice cream or vodka, fill out crossword puzzles, even go to sleep and line up again in the morning as the queue drags on.

Résumé:
Many consider Barry Schwabsky to be the critic on painting today, even if he does write copiously on other art forms,” write editors Rob Colvin and Sherman Sam in their foreword to this selection of Schwabsky's writings. Written since the turn of the millennium, the texts in 'The Oberver Effect' include meditations on the broader context of painting today alongside reflections on such well-known American painters as Alex Katz, Kerry James Marshall, Nicole Eisenman, and Dana Schutz, as well as practitioners from Europe and beyond?Bernard Frize, Tal R, and Ha Chonghyun among them. As Colvin and Sam point out, the book “documents a dialogue between abstraction and the image” in which “images serve less to represent their described subject than to articulate the sort of painting each one desires to be.

Résumé:
In January 2020, Alec Soth received a letter from Chris Fausto Cabrera, an inmate of the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Rush City, in which he asked the photographer to engage in a dialogue. This sparked an expansive and insightful correspondence over the following nine months which, set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, Black Lives Matter Movement and growing unrest, reaches to the heart of contemporary America. In amongst their exchanges of personal histories and shared influences – from Ralph Ellison’s The Invisible Man and André 3000, to Robert Frank’s The Americans and Rilke’s 'Letters to a Young Poet' – developed a searing investigation of the redemptive power of art and the imagination, justice and accountability, life inside America’s prisons, and the astonishing capacity of empathy and curiosity to bring two people together.

Résumé:
"The decay of lying" includes two of Wilde’s most comprehensive–and witty–explorations of his aesthetic philosophy: "The decay of lying" and "The critic as artist." In this text, Wilde uses his decadent ideology in an attempt to reverse and therefore reject his audiences' 'normal' conceptualizations of nature, art and morality. Wilde's views of life and art are illustrated through the use of Platonic dialogue where the character Vivian takes on the persona of Wilde. Wilde's goal is to subvert the norm by reversing its values. Wilde suggests to us that society is wrong, not him. Calling on diverse examples - from Ancient Greek sculpture to contemporary paintings - Oscar Wilde's brilliant essay creates a witty, paradoxical world in which the only Art worth loving is that built on complete untruths.

Résumé:
Le Corbusier‘s chapel Notre-Dame-du-Haut in Ronchamp is arguably the most famous modern religious building and a UNESCO world heritage site. In this book, Austrian artist Siegrun Appelt takes an entirely new approach to looking at the iconic structure, distinct from all her famous predecessors. Appelt focuses with an utter concentration on details, creating compositions of the highest sensitivity and precision. Her images highlight the place’s spatial structure and lines, Le Corbusier’s ingenious direction of light, as well as surfaces and passages. Published alongside the images is a dialogue between Claudia Kromrei and Otto Kapfinger, in which they investigate the potential of photography to show Le Corbusier’s means of expression and discuss the visualization and perception of material and immaterial elements of this icon of twentieth-century architecture.
