Résumé:
In graphic designer Basss sole picture book, first published in 1962, his stylized collage prints pair with Kleins understated text to tell the story of a boy who dreams about traveling from his small town of Reboul to visit Paris. In Reboul, Henri lives in a little white house made up of two angular geometrical shapes, surrounded by a lush tapestry-like forest, and has three friends, Andre, Jacques, and Michel (they appear as three pairs of legs, fitted with pink pants, decoratively pattered socks, and green boots). Finally, Henri sets out walking to Paris, but when a bird interferes with his sense of direction, he gets turned around, discovering that Paris is an awful lot like Reboul. Bass plays with repetition (theres a strong symmetry to Henris journey), text, and strong blocks of color, while using negative and positive space to toy with perception.

Résumé:
Dwelling for Intervals is a morphing International Artist Residency program, based on a forest retreat, that has hosted more than 150 resident artists from around the world since it began in 2001. First known as “A Week in the Woods”, it was situated in a room, in an apartment, in Montreal. Three years later, it became “This Neck of the Woods”, in a cabin in a backyard in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Finally, the project became a roving para-site called “Knock on Woods” which has temporarily staked claim to land in Holland, France, Portugal, Berlin, Japan, and Canada. Dwelling for Intervals is an independent state, a sculpture, a series of collaborations, an international artist residency, a wilderness, a tree house, a travelling circus and a relative site/situation for temporary doing and undoing. The publication documents both the sites and the on-site work of the residents.

Résumé:
Shigeru Ban may be best known for his evocative Curtain Wall House in Tokyo----a highlight of the Museum of Modern Art's 1999 Un-Private House exhibit----but few know the range of this Japanese architect's work. In this first English-language monograph on Ban, 30 built projects reveal his inventiveness and humanitarianism. Ban's primary objectives in his work are the use of low-cost materials and the dissolution of the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. His paper tube designs, which he first created as emergency housing for victims of Rwanda's civil war, were later reconfigured for earthquake victims in Kobe and were incorporated in Ban's Japanese Pavilion at Hannover Expo 2000. Influenced by the Japanese tradition of linking the home with the surrounding environment, Ban has created buildings such as Hanegi Forest and Walls-less House that invite nature to coexist with design.

Résumé:
The Canadian sub-arctic is a world of forest, prairie and muskeg; of rainbow trout, moose, and caribou; of Indian hunters and trappers. It is also a world of boomtowns and bars, oil rigs and seismic soundings; of white energy speculators, ranchers and sports hunters. Hugh Brody came to this dual wold with the job of 'mapping' the lands of northwest British Columbia as well as the way of life of a small group of Beaver Indians with a viable hunting economy living in the path of a projected oil pipeline. "Maps and dreams" is his account of an extraordinary 18-month journey through the world of a people who have no intention of vanishing into the past. Brody's powerful commentary retraces the history of the ever-expanding white frontier, from the first eighteenth-century explorer to the wildest corporate energy dreams of the present day.

Résumé:
In the 21st century the architects and designers of urban spaces face great challenges to integrate nature in order to transform 'cement forests' into 'forest cities'. Perhaps the best solution is to go green with vertical landscapes. More than just a decorative trend, this is a means of bringing life and greenery into metropolitan areas by using different framing systems to create compositions of plant life and adapt them to diverse settings, including offices, factories, parking lots, hotels, and installations within larger parks. Enriched by the reflections of the inventive protagonists of this fertile new aesthetic, Going Green with Vertical Landscapes is organised by theme and canvases early experiments conducted by famous design companies such as Vo Trong Nghia Architects (VTN), Fytogreen Australia and RYUICHI ASHIZAWA ARCHITECTS & associates. All of these projects combine man-made materials, recent technologies, and diverse types of vegetation to conquer the vertical dimension.

Résumé:
From the beet fields of North Dakota to the National Forest campgrounds of California to Amazon's CamperForce program in Texas, employers have discovered a new, low-cost labor pool, made up largely of transient older Americans. Finding that social security comes up short, often underwater on mortgages, these invisible casualties of the Great Recession have taken to the road by the tens of thousands in late-model RVs, travel trailers, and vans, forming a growing community of nomads: migrant laborers who call themselves ''workampers.'' On frequently traveled routes between seasonal jobs, Jessica Bruder meets people from all walks of life: accompanying them from campground toilet cleaning to warehouse product scanning to desert reunions, then moving on to the dangerous work of beet harvesting, Bruder tells an eye-opening tale of the dark underbelly of the American economy- one that foreshadows the precarious future that may await many more of us.

Résumé:
The photographer best known for his extensive, insightful documentation of "the American social landscape"-from jazz musicians to factory hands to New York pedestrians and office workers zoning out at their keyboards-has recently been spending more time looking at the literal, natural landscape. His 2005 MoMA retrospective showed, for the first time, a new series of landscapes made in the American west, while for "Olives and apples", he has looked back over the last decade’s work and culled a forest, tree by tree. His docile subjects, apple trees photographed in New York State and olive trees photographed in France, Italy and Spain from 1997-2004, are presented in circumstances ranging from sunny, leafy summer health to glittering winter ice-storm glory. Some of the most striking compositions are shot from just inside the reach of a tree’s furthest twigs, so that expanding branching limbs fill the frame, stretching out around the viewer.

Résumé:
This book celebrates the patterns and abstract forms found in nature. Bernhard Edmaier’s aerial photographs show the beautiful shapes formed on the earth’s surface by rocks, ice, sand, water, trees and plants. The hundreds of images in this book make us look at the world in a new way, by showing us surprising similarities and unexpected links between the most disparate regions of the planet. Instead of seeing a forest or a desert or a field, we see circles and lines, zigzags and spirals, abstract shapes and precise repetition occurring in the most unexpected places. In this book, Edmaier`s photographs are organized by shape and form into clearly defined sections, with tabbed pages for easy access. Each section features short texts explaining where the types of patterns depicted in that chapter are found and how they are formed. In additon, every picture has a caption describing the location of the depicted pattern, and how it was created.
