Résumé:
In 'The Future of the New' artists, theorists, and professionals working the art field reflect on the role of the arts in a world that is speeding up and changing through joint forces of globalization, digitization, commodification, and financialization. Can artistic innovation still function as a source of critique? How do artists, theorists, and art organizations deal with the changing role of and discourse on innovation? Should we look for alternative ways to innovate, or should we change our discourse and look for other (new!) ways to talk about the new?

Résumé:
Based on an exhibition of the same title, this book focus on self-confident, non-conformist feminist positions, and points out that new role models and strategies are being requested. In her essay, Amelia Jones contests the notion of a current post-feminism and, using the example of Pipilotti Rist's works, develops a model of parafeminism. Refering to Mary Beth Edelson and Annie Sprinkle, Maria Elena Buszek compares two generations and their respective strategies, and Katy Deepwell questions the role of female artists within art history. Mercedes Bunz looks at femininism in relation to flexibilized capitalism and diagnoses a new form of oppression. The exhibition's curator, Heike Munder, presents a survey of the exhibition's different positions and makes an appeal for new role models. With contributions by artists such as Anat Ben-David, Patty Chang, Mary Beth Edelson, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Manon, Yoko Ono, Pipilotti Rist, Katharina Sieverding, Annie Sprinkle, and Mathilde ter Heijne. Published with the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich.

Résumé:
Based in New York City, Amy Sillman (born 1955) is an artist whose work consistently combines the visceral with the intellectual. 'Faux pas' aims at revealing the coherence and originality of Sillman’s reflection, as she addresses the possibilities of art today, favoring excess over good taste, wrestling over dandyism, forms over symbols, with as much critical sense as humor.

The murals, computer images, paper works, drawings and objects of Berlin-based Michael Hakimi are combined in site-specific installations to form intricate networks of meaning. Hakimi expands the function of his formally reduced, two-dimensional images by means of his interventions, emphasizing the semantic divide between object and sign. The artist examines the narrative potential of symbols and basic geometric shapes through the collagelike interaction of his works with readymades of the simplest materials. His installation "Large Oven" (2004), for example, realized for the Kunstverein Hamburg, and the spatial project "Roof" (2007), produced for the Kunsthalle Basel, both of which are comprehensively documented for the first time in the present publication, create walk-in scenarios reflecting social, political and urban realities. Beyond these works, this retrospective monograph presents all of Hakimi's work since 2002.

Résumé:
German artist Kitty Kraus applies a Minimalist formal vocabulary to humble, elegiac materials that suggest an active engagement with alchemical transformations. Utilizing household glass, light bulbs, cloth and ice, Krauss explores a trajectory of dissolution in contemporary materials, finding a melancholic beauty in the literal and symbolic failure of form.

Résumé:
Silvia Bächli was invited to design the official contribution for the Swiss Pavilion at this year’s Biennale in Venice. This book offers a look inside her studio and documents the preparation of her works for the Biennale, illustrating her working process with spatial situations and snapshots that show her trying out various constellations as well as focusing on individual works and groups. The works and pictures from the artist’s studio are combined with photographs of her working stay in Iceland. Bächli has developed her body of drawings over the course of three decades, using varying formats and techniques. Drawing, for her, is a movement of seeing, of gentle deviations and displacements within the gravitational field of an aimless attentiveness to things and dreamlike phenomena that doesn’t really come to rest even in the finished drawing. The result is not just painterly moments; the drawings often seem to capture, as if in film stills, a cinematic look way of looking at bodies and things or their details, at landscapes, gestures, structures, and processes.
