Bauhaus Dream-house brings critical social theory to bear on the ideas of architectural and design education at the Bauhaus - tracing the spread and influence of these ideas worldwide. Developed in post WW1 Germany, the principles of Bauhaus architecture and design were transferred by some of its leading figures to architecture schools at Harvard, Chicago and the IIT. Yet in the postwar era, they also became increasingly influential in architecture schools in Western and Central Europe, Japan, South America, Africa and the Middle East. This book provides a critical examination of the profound social, cultural and spatial consequences of these developments and the erasure of class, race, gender and culture which the ‘modernisation’ of design embodied.

Résumé:
In Cornelia Hahn Oberlander: Making the Modern Landscape, Susan Herrington draws upon archival research, site analyses, and numerous interviews with Oberlander and her collaborators to offer a biography of this adventurous and influential landscape architect. Born in 1921, Oberlander fled Nazi Germany at the age of eighteen with her family, going on to become one of the few women to graduate from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in the late 1940s. For six decades she has practiced socially responsible and ecologically sensitive planning for public landscapes. Herrington places Oberlander within a larger social and aesthetic context, chronicling both her personal and professional trajectory and her work in New York, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Seattle, Berlin, Toronto, and Montreal.

Architect Angela Pang brings together design, research, and teaching. Her Rational Form Making approach explores a fundamental question: How can we build more with less? Operating from her studio, PangArchitect, in Hong Kong and Boston, and as an Assistant Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, she combines precise analysis, digital methods, and experimental modeling to drive architectural innovations. In search of objectivity in form-making, Pang’s approach merges creative freedom with explorations between natural forces and material-conscious efficiency to discover a new design process. At the heart of the exhibition at Aedes is a striking experimental prototype—a 3D-printed pavilion at the scale of 1:2.5 of an ongoing project for a public space in Hong Kong.

Résumé:
Compiled as a field guide, travelogue, essay collection, and weather report, ''Alien Daughters Walk into the Sun'' traces Jackie Wang's trajectory from hard femme to Harvard, from dumpster dives and highway bike rides to dropping out of an MFA program, becoming a National Book Award finalist, and writing her trenchant book ''Carceral Capitalism''. ''Alien Daughters'' charts the dream-seeking misadventures of an “odd girl” from Florida who emerged from punk houses and early Tumblr to become the powerful writer she is today. Anarchic and beautifully personal, ''Alien Daughters'' is a strange intellectual autobiography that demonstrates Wang's singular self-education: an early life lived where every day and every written word began like the Tarot's Fool, with a leap of faith.
