Résumé:
Turner Prize-nominated British artist Cornelia Parker (born 1956) is well known for her large-scale, site-specific installations. Her work has been featured in many solo exhibitions and is included in collections around the world. Often composed of ordinary objects, her installations make the familiar extraordinary, whimsical, and even poignant. Her work for the 2016 Roof Garden Commission at The Met, documented here, merges two iconic examples of American architecture: the red barn and the infamous mansion on a hill from Alfred Hitchcock's movie Psycho—itself inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper.

Schütte’s first forays into imaginary or utopian architecture were scale models of rooms in which one might live and work. After a gap of 20 years, Schütte returned to the architectural model, producing light pavilions out of wood and studio leftovers, as well as commercial and public buildings. Houses provides a comprehensive survey of Schütte’s architectural models, from his early experiments through to his current design projects.

Jockum Nordström creates oddball, apparently naïve narratives that owe much to the twin influences of folk art and modernist absurdism. Each of his painted, drawn or collaged stories is both specific and open-ended, as though - not unlike Henry Darger’s paintings - they are part of a much grander and ongoing tale that unfolds over a prolonged period. Each of his painted, drawn or collaged stories is both specific and open-ended, as though - not unlike Henry Darger’s paintings - they are part of a much grander and ongoing tale that unfolds over a prolonged period. His distinctive sensibility draws on a wide range of inspirations in music, poetry and architecture - particularly the Stockholm suburb where he grew up, which both his drawings and his sculptures reference on an ongoing basis.

Résumé:
Libraries are generally perceived as storehouses, spaces of neutral accumulation and containment. While the architecture may attempt to operate in this stable mode, the material contained within them is often far wilder. Histories, biographies, loose thoughts, and detailed notations are temporarily suspended, cataloged, and organized, creating relationships where perhaps previously there were none. The trajectory of the Staatsbibliothek Berlin exposes the tension between what is contained in libraries and how it is contained in a highly palpable way. This new artist book charts three narratives associated with the life of this particular library.

Résumé:
The work of Didier Faustino focuses on the relationship between body and space. Since 1995, he has operated at the boundary between art and architecture, creating large installations and projects that incorporate the subversion of spaces and the exacerbation of our senses. These are often characterised by their fictional dimension, critical stance, and ability to offer new experiences to the individual and collective body. In ‘Vortex Populi’ he explores how the architectural form can exist within transversality. The project’s central theme is the violent clashes between protestors and authoritarian forces, and the structures and spatial oppositions that emerge.

"Trespassing: houses x artists" breaks through the conceptual boundaries that have historically divided art and architecture to describe new strategies of conceiving private space. In their individual collaborations with architects Alan Koch and Linda Taalman of OpenOffice, nine contemporary artists radically reinvent how domestic space is created and inhabited. The resulting works are open-ended, representing a new approach to visualizing form rather than a final product or conceptual destination. Includes work by: T. Kelly Mason, David Reed, Peter Noever, Renee Petropoulos, Julian Opie, Jessica Stockholder, Jim Isermann, Chris Burden, Barbara Bloom, Kevin Appel amongst others.

The Only Female Fool is how Isa Genzken describes herself in the self-chosen title of her exhibition at the Kunsthalle Wien. This statement is typical of the fluid boundaries between deep seriousness and the exuberant, eccentric spirit that pervades her work. Genzken’s artistic practice is characterized by a wide spectrum of media and forms, although her roots in sculpture always remain visible. The exhibition and catalogue focus on specific aspects of her oeuvre, including the mirror motif, the examination of architecture, and space as a social sphere; where early works are juxtaposed with series from later creative periods

Résumé:
Erik Göngrich is a Berlin-based artist who works with sculpture, drawing, photography, and other media. His interest lies in architecture and design, in how things are made and why, and in interactions with places. He therefore fills this book with numerous drawings, sketches and full-colour photographs, all of which revolve around the topic of the so-called misunderstanding of Modernism and how urban settings and ideals can be put back on track through effective sculptural or monumental transformations of public space. Part manifesto, part research project, this book presents a fascinating re-imagination of Modernism’s failed and dilapidated legacy.

Résumé:
The British installation artist Rachel Whiteread does deliberately what the lava of Pompeii did naturally. She casts whole rooms or architectural details to create a sculptural reversal, places and objects which both literally and figuratively leave an impression and occupy space firmly even in their immateriality. The four series presented here on the theme of the "house" transform the functional qualities of surrounding architecture into aura-filled works of art. They comprise early and new works, providing a useful overview of this aspect of Whiteread's notable career. Four essays by well-known critics illuminate the principles behind her work to go along with over 50 color illustrations.
