Quarry (1971)
AP207.S1.1971.PR03
Description:
The project series documents Pettena's project "Quarry". It consists of a series of three drawings showing a quarry wall painted in pink washed away by a rain storm, consequently creating and leading to the formation of a small lake of pink water at the bottom of the quarry. A camera, placed on the opposite side of the quarry, films the whole process. "The drawing traces an intervention in three successive phases in a context modified by the work of human beings and then reconquered by nature [...]." [1] The project series contains drawings of the three successive phases, one showing the painted wall, the second showing the rain storm, and the last one showing the lake formed at the bottom of the quarry with the pink stained water. It also includes project descriptions in English and in Italian. Source: [1] Gianni Pettena website, https://www.giannipettena.it/italiano/opere-1/nat-quarry-1971-1/ (last accessed 11 November 2019)

Tumbleweeds Catcher (1972)
AP207.S1.1972.PR03
Description:
The project series documents "Tumbleweeds Catcher", an installation by Pettena and a group of his students from the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, in 1972. The installation consisted of a tower-scaffold built on a vacant lot near the city centre and covered with mesh so it could capture the tumbleweeds blown by the wind. Through this installation Pettena's intention was to "highlight the 'work of the land', the tumbleweeds moved by the wind and intercepted by the mesh of the tower, 'naturalize' it, contaminate it, thereby embodying the revenge of nature over urbanized space." [1] A second edition was later presented at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art in Salt Lake City in 2013. The project series contains photographs of the installation in 1972 and 2013, and drawings and sketches of the tower. Source: [1] Marco Scotini, editor. Non-conscious architecture: Gianni Pettena, Sternberg Press, 2018, 235 pages. p. 162.

Description:
This project subseries documents the Piscina Pública in Pedras Salgadas, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 50/00. The office assigned the dates 2008-2010 to this project. This project consisted of two outdoor public pools for the Pedras Salgadas Spa and Nature Park. One large pool was built for adults and a smaller children's pool sat diagonally from it. A small building that contained a bar was also built next to the pools. The project was realized. This project subseries is documented through drawings, photographic materials and textual records dating from 2007-2010. The drawings are mostly printed reprographic copies of CAD drawings, many of which have annotations, showing plans and details. The photographic materials, which are printed digital photos, show the site and construction. The textual records include technical documentation for the water, fire and gas systems, structural and electrical documentation, supplier catalogues, budgets, specifications and correspondence.

Description:
File documents proposals for an international exhibition on the theme of innovations in agriculture and food production. Peter Kuttner was the exhibition organizer and the full extent of Cedric Price’s involvement in the project is unclear, although his office produced a model, drawings, and exhibition and display design ideas. Plans show exhibition, cinema, and lecture areas, as well as, book stalls and a restaurant. Plans also show thematic areas: 'Farms for Food', 'Methods of Production and Storage', and the 'Nature of Food', as well as circulation patterns. An initial proposal titled 'Food for the Future' was submitted to the Greater London Council for the Hayward Gallery, in London, but was rejected. A subsequent submission with the title 'Food First' was made to the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York. Material in this file was created between 1971 and 1978 but predominantly between 1971 and 1975. Peter Kuttner is attributed as the organizer of the exhibition which was originally titled: 'Food of the future exhibition'. File contains conceptual drawings, model, and textual records.

Projet
AP164.S1.2003.D10
Description:
The project series documents the commission and built project for an urban development and a public park on the banks of the rivers Torio and Bernesca in the area of La Lastra, León, Spain. The firm identified the project as number 173. “The park of La Lastra is composed by the superpositioning [sic] of four different states of natural space: a fluvial park, an urban park, an agricultural park and a park with common installations. Being next to the urbanization of La Lastra, both public spaces, both adopt a minimum strategy of landscape bubbles and urbanized bubbles respectively in the way that the whole complex becomes a continuum and achieves a scale able to diffuse the traditional limits of either urban fabric or park, confirming a singular complex which responds to the way in which new generations can understand the relation between nature and artificial.” (ARCH270975) Two other projects are related to this one: Alcorque para León (AP164.S1.2004.D5) and Puentes de León (AP164.S1.2004.D6). Documenting the project are presentation documents, notes, a dummy and a proposal.

Série(s)
Œuvres du prix de Rome
AP120.S2
