This book is a collection of fanzines inspired by conversations and texts around four main themes: the bubble of the (critical) design school; the power of design and the agency of designers; the nature of design; and collective power. Included are excerpts from Matos’ thesis on the use of design as a social critique and agent of change, his transparent disclosures and personal investigation into the impact of privilege on critical design, as well as the contributions from Silvio Lorusso, J. Dakota Brown, Marianela D’Aprile, Somnath Bhatt, the DAE students of 2021/2022, and many more.

Résumé:
''Tropical reading: photobook and self-publishing'' illustrates the photography practitioners and artist collectives from each city in Southeast Asia, examining why they chose to get into self-publishing. It explores how independent art bookstores came to be the social parlours of the self-publishing crowd. Furthermore, observes how the outsider artists, archives and arts initiatives of Southeast Asia came to shape the face of photography and self-publishing in their respective cities. The index is a compilation of our project field research, condensing the profiles of all the interviewees – from people to bookstores to organisations – to make a kind of alternative Yellow Pages for the Southeast Asian art scene.

Résumé:
Over the last decade, Copenhagen has undergone a major transformation – not just in its appearance, but in the way the city functions and is experienced by its residents. COBE’s projects are spread out over Copenhagen, but they aren’t cookie-cutter buildings that are placed without meaning or context. Each structure is highly aware of what the local markers mean in a globalised world. What unites them is the architects’ desire to achieve a more sustainable, socially inviting urban environment for city residents. This monograph speaks to all those who live and work in cities, with contributions ranging from established architects and architecture critics to the those in municipal and urban planning roles and the residents themselves.

Résumé:
The focus of this large book is an 18th century Dutch cabinet from the Rijksmuseum’s furniture collection. This cabinet houses a collection of curiosities including a mini-apothecary’s shop filled with over 300 jars, pots, and bottles containing medicines. Concealed behind the rear wall of the cabinet, 55 secret drawers reveal a varied collection of over 2,000 naturalia specimens – including seeds, flowers, roots, resins, ores, and a great deal more. The cabinet was probably owned by a wealthy doctor or pharmacist and its contents were intended as a curiosity, for the amusement of a select group of friends. 21st century readers will be equally impressed by this exceptional Dutch collector’s cabinet.
