Born in 1957, Beijing-based Ai Weiwei is perhaps the most internationally visible contemporary Chinese artist. Philip Tinari has described his practice as a, "multitasking sprawl--encompassing artmaking, curating, publishing and architectural design--[that] threatens to answer the vaguely unsettling question, What would Andy Warhol's career have looked like if it had played out in turn-of-the-millennium China? (For one thing, architecture might have stood in for film; where Warhol created an alter-Hollywood, Ai is a self-invented starchitect)." After spending the early 1980s in New York, Ai moved back to Beijing in 1994. Already an important member of the Stars group, a socially critical movement that borrowed heavily from western art and culture, he established the famed China Art Archives and Warehouse in 1997. In 2000, on the occasion of the Shanghai Biennale, he organized the attention-grabbing group exhibition Fuck Off in collaboration with curator Feng Boyi. More recently, he was involved in the design of the Olympic Stadium in Beijing by Herzog & de Meuron. This publication takes an in-depth look at Ai's under-explored engagement with ceramics, and is published on the occasion of a solo exhibition of his recent ceramic work at Holland's Groningen Museum.

In 1906, Klee noted in his diary, "All will be Klee," and in 1911, as the encyclopedist of his cosmos, he began to meticulously chronicle his works in a catalogue that, by the time he died, was to contain more than 9,000 items. Here, in the fashion of an Orbis Pictus or a Renaissance emblem book, Klee's oeuvre is made legible as a cogent entirety, in thematic units address: the human life cycle, from birth and childhood to sexual desire, parenthood and death; music, architecture, theater and religion; plants, animals and landscapes; and, finally, darker, destructive forces in the shape of war, fear and death. The Klee Universe reimagines the artist as a Renaissance man, an artist of great learning whose cosmos proves to be a coherent system of ideas and images.

Support structures is a critical enquiry into what constitutes “support,” and documents the collaborative project “Support Structure” by Céline Condorelli and Gavin Wade. While registering and collecting reference projects in a new archive of support structures alongside its ten-phase project, different writers, thinkers, and practitioners were invited from various fields to elaborate on frameworks and work on texts , which form the theoretical backbone of the publication. The collection of contributions offers different possibilities for engaging in this unchartered territory, from propositions to projects, existing systems to ones invented for specific creative processes. Taking as its point of departure an architectural drawing by Jeremy Bentham that became the model for an entire social regime, CTRL [SPACE] looks at the shifting relationships between design and power, imaging and oppression, from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries. The result is a breathtaking, technically sophisticated avant-garde piece of architecture that refuses categorization. Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen define their artistic collaboration as “a synthesis of opposites”. Characterised by a constant interaction between two strong and distinct identities, their collaboration, approaching the complexity of the contemporary world dynamically, has redefined the concept of sculpture. This is a comprehensive monograph devoted to this celebrated couple of contemporary artists who have, through their collaboration, ventured into new territories, leading their artistic language towards interaction with other disciplines and thus creating a new artistic language; it documents their creative development. Modifying the language of monumental sculpture created for public spaces, since the end of the seventies these two artists have developed their work bringing it to dimensions that are at times colossal. The monograph, published for a retrospective held at Rivoli Castle, investigates the close ties that exist between their works and architecture. It traces the evolution of their art from the mid-eighties to today placing particular emphasis on works created since the early nineties where dynamic tension resulting from performative gesture has given rise to investigations into issues connected with human frailty faced with the inexorable potency of time. Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen define their artistic collaboration as “a synthesis of opposites”. Characterised by a constant interaction between two strong and distinct identities, their collaboration, approaching the complexity of the contemporary world dynamically, has redefined the concept of sculpture. This is a comprehensive monograph devoted to this celebrated couple of contemporary artists who have, through their collaboration, ventured into new territories, leading their artistic language towards interaction with other disciplines and thus creating a new artistic language; it documents their creative development. Modifying the language of monumental sculpture created for public spaces, since the end of the seventies these two artists have developed their work bringing it to dimensions that are at times colossal. The monograph, published for a retrospective held at Rivoli Castle, investigates the close ties that exist between their works and architecture. It traces the evolution of their art from the mid-eighties to today placing particular emphasis on works created since the early nineties where dynamic tension resulting from performative gesture has given rise to investigations into issues connected with human frailty faced with the inexorable potency of time. The volume contains an interview with the artists which is being published for the first time, an anthology of writings, a bio-bibliography and a huge new work specially created for the occasion: Dropped Flower.
