Not all colors go together, it takes a nuanced approach to combine them in ways that both complement each other while creating a cohesive design that reflects both the client’s visual identity and contemporary trends in colorways. It’s a Complement showcases the latest in color palette creation by some of the world’s top talents as they navigate the colors of the spectrum. Beginning with a treatise on color psychology, the editors provide context before launching on exploration of modern color theory. From the bold maximalism of high saturation, to the more subdued minimalism of low saturation and the neutral greys, blacks and whites, no stone is left unturned. Features projects in visual identity, packaging, promotion design and more across a wide swath of media.

Résumé:
Digital currencies (cryptocurrencies) and digital property require large amounts of land, resources, and data centers and infrastructures to store these ''supplies''. There is a larger architectural and urban infrastructural challenge and urgency on how these various kinds of digital exchanges are mediated, to limit the detrimental use of our everyday resources. Using a mixed-media approach, this book couples a novel exploration of XR (mixed-reality) and AR (augmented reality) into several parts of the book. To prolong the shelf-life of emergent data and case-studies on the topic, the book is complemented with an open-access digital platform for readers to access video interviews with the industry experts, diagrammatic mapping and graphical cartography, and 3D artifacts that shows how data interacts with phygital properties.

Résumé:
Across a vast span of human history, in our expanding and evolving capacities for both construction and reverence, there has been an interplay between biomorphic and geometric form related to situating ourselves on a cosmic spectrum. Sotirios Kotoulas is an architect immersed in the possibility of these forms, and the materials that render them. In his practice, symbolic shapes, materials, and colors can channel energy, and electromagnetic forces can be tuned and transmitted. In turn, these dynamisms can be mapped, be traced, and become form generators on their own. Sotirios approaches these concerns from multiple angles simultaneously, from conceptual exploration to the assembly of viable structures. As an Artist-in-residence at Dartmouth, he's delved deeper into two projects on this spectrum.

Résumé:
HISTAORMINA presents new concepts of architectural education and urban design through the lens of an intensive two-week workshop held in September of 2001. With the unique coastal hilltown of Taormina, Sicily as both subject and setting, the authors led a team of European and American students in an exploration that combined visual and conceptual design, historical references, critical discourse, and both local and global issues with innovative new methods of individual creativity and collaboration. The results are documented in an extensive series of photographs of experimental models and constructions and the working processes that produced them. These are accompanied by comments from the students and a text by the authors explaining the concepts behind this new approach and describing its implications for the future.

One in six new houses today is a prefab and 400,000 units are now produced in the U.S. each year. More than 50% of all homes are constructed in whole or in part by using building systems - modular, panelized components produced in quality controlled environments. This exploration of the best prefabricated houses on the market today, from all over the world, along with a resource directory on how you can purchase them, is an invaluable reference for those interested in this alternative.

This book is a clarion call to artists, writers, and scientists to explore their willingness to wonder and drive to discover. Inspired by a quote from Ray Bradbury, “Explode Every Day” is a bold new exhibition harnessing the energy of wonder. This book features works touching on certain facets of wonder, including themes of the perceptual/visionary, technological/scientific, and time/cosmos. In compelling essays on the history of wonder and its intersection with myriad disciplines, including psychology, literature, and science, today’s great minds consider the many avenues for this phenomena. Interviews with the exhibition’s artists provide insight into individual processes of creativity and innovation. The result is an exploration of the richness of wonder: from the every day to the ineffable.

Résumé:
The devastation of the Second World War gave rise to imaginations both utopian and apocalyptic. In Japan, a fascinating confluence of architects and science fiction writers took advantage of this space to begin remaking urban design. In 'The Metabolist Imagination', William O. Gardner explores the unique Metabolism movement, which allied with science fiction authors to foresee the global cities that would emerge in the postwar era. This first comparative study of postwar Japanese architecture and science fiction builds on the resurgence of interest in Metabolist architecture while establishing new directions for exploration. Gardner focuses on how these innovators created unique versions of shared concepts—including futurity, megastructures, capsules, and cybercities—making lasting contributions that resonate with contemporary conversations around cyberpunk, climate change, anime, and more.
