Résumé:
Swiss architects and researchers Géraldine Borio and Caroline Wüthrich have been living and working in Hong Kong since 2010, when they established their architectural firm, Parallel Lab, there. Since then, they’ve been fascinated by the micro-level of urban life in Hong Kong, and it’s led to a major project: the pair investigated the ways the city’s residents use the narrow lanes that run behind and between the city’s high-rises, semi-public spaces that offer venues for business, social interaction, and a wide range of informal encounters. Hong Kong in Between presents the results of this exploration through a mix of black-and-white drawings, diagrams, plans, photographs, and texts that reveal the active, ever-changing life of these forgotten, in-between spaces.

Résumé:
Drawing on the United Nations' assertion that "the climate crisis is mainly a water crisis," this thought-provoking book compiles over 100 key terms defined by contemporary thinkers in science, philosophy, politics, activism and architecture. These terms—such as Water Rights, Hydrocatharsis, Decommodification of Water and Liquid Modernity—form a vital lexicon to guide transformative action and foster a more symbiotic relationship with water. Structured as a collaborative exploration, the book combines scientific insight, philosophical depth and architectural vision to redefine how we engage with water socially, politically and ecologically. Illustrated with cartographic case studies, the volume offers vivid and hopeful scenarios for reshaping human–water interdependence. Through its diverse contributors and an interdisciplinary approach, "100 Words for Water" challenges readers to rethink water management and design as the foundation of a resilient, multispecies future.

Résumé:
"Studies on Squats" is an evocative exploration of embodied resistance and political movement that uses the multifaceted posture of the "Asian Squat" as a lens through which broader concepts of migration, illness, and resilience are examined. In "Studies on Squats," the body—in its most vulnerable and potent states—becomes a speculative site for reclaiming agency by crafting new forms of protest that draw from ancestral strength, humor and eroticism. This posture, rich with cultural resonance, offers as an entry point to imagine ways in which the body can engage in acts of defiance against systems of oppression. "Studies on Squats" invites the audience to consider how dance and choreographic thinking can serve as tools for envisioning alternative futures, where artistry empowers those enduring systemic social injustices to transform their realities.

Résumé:
"I Am Almost Always Hungry" is the first monograph on the work of Cahan & Associates, a San Francisco based design agency. The firm's working methods, involving extensive exploration, collaboration, and play, are documented in this monograph through interviews with founder Bill Cahan, clients, and vendors; writings by colleagues; photo essays; proposals to clients that were accepted and rejected; and finished pieces, providing a portrait of a firm for whom process is just as important as product. Cahan & Associates, founded in 1984, works on projects ranging from packaging and annual reports to posters, websites, and corporate identity programs, with clients including Coca-Cola, Sun Microsystems, and the U.S. Postal Service. The book is a tour-de-force of production itself: printed on twelve different kinds of papers, the entire book is French-folded.

Résumé:
"Small Strawbale" is a meditative exploration of the innumerable reasons to consider strawbale as a viable building material. Environmentally friendly, super insulative, economical, and natural, strawbale can be used to build everything from garden walls to small homes. "Small Strawbale" tells the stories of people who have successfully created structures out of this easily replenishable building material, reminding us that our human roots are ultimately grounded and dependent upon the earth and its bounties. This practical guide is filled with rich photos of homes, greenhouses, studios, sheds, open-air structures and more, each pulsating with unique yet subtle creativity. Both a pragmatic construction manual and a philosophical, artistic guidebook, "Small Strawbale" is an inspirational starting point for a strawbale dreamer, and a great source of information for those who are ready to get bailing.

Résumé:
This innovative, ironic, and metaphoric exploration of the life of worms is a stunning showcase of Noemi Vola’s impressive and versatile talents as both an illustrator and a writer. Her funny, clever illustrations are paired with pithy, ironic text that conveys all you ever needed (and perhaps never needed) to know about worms. Beginning with ''factual'' material about worms in general, from eating habits to underground habitats to its varying shades of pink, there is much to discover about worms. The narrative then follows one worm in particular through a tragic loss of its better half (also known as the worm’s tail), becoming a metaphor for all who have loved and lost. The humor of both illustrations and text are paired beautifully, introducing a distinctive new artist with honed literary sensibility to the American audience.

Résumé:
"Do glaciers listen?" explores the conflicting depictions of glaciers to show how natural and cultural histories are objectively entangled in the Mount Saint Elias ranges. This rugged area, where Alaska, British Columbia, and the Yukon Territory now meet, underwent significant geophysical change in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, which coincided with dramatic social upheaval resulting from European exploration and increased travel and trade among Aboriginal peoples. Focusing on these contrasting views during the late stages of the Little Ice Age (1550-1900), Cruikshank demonstrates how local knowledge is produced, rather than discovered, through colonial encounters, and how it often conjoins social and biophysical processes. She then traces how the divergent views weave through contemporary debates about cultural meanings as well as current discussions about protected areas, parks, and the new World Heritage site.

Résumé:
Bettina Götz, the commissioner of the Austrian exhibit at the 11th architecture Biennale di Venezia, discusses the "Before Architecture" theme of the exhibition with three key case studies. Volume 1: Josef Lackner (1931–2000), whose uncompromising approach to architecture is examined in five of his buildings. PAUHOF (Michael Hofstätter, born in 1953, and Wolfgang Pauzenberger, born in 1955), whose conceptual work methods link utopias with reality creating added social value. In volume 2, the German architecture theorist and sociologist Werner Sewing explores the issue of residential construction as a neglected field of work in terms of perception and theory. His exploration of this subject in discussion with seven Austrian architecture offices also researches common practices in this field. The beautifully crafted, two-volume catalog in a slipcase is an enduring documentation of this subject.
