Résumé:
''Enfleshed: Ecologies of entities and beings'' brings together practitioners, thinkers, and artists from across Eurasia to collectively explore multispecies ecologies. The volume reflects anthrodecentric and embodied approaches to collaboration and knowledge production––processes that are always interwoven with a multitude of entities and actors. In this book, the contributions flow like a river across the Eurasian continent, branching out into all directions. The contributors engage in an exploration of experimental epistemic alliances, which operate as a way to learn and make new dialogic relations. The conflicts generated by ecological disaster, war, the global economy, identity politics, and the power structures of knowledge production and science here intertwine with shamanisms, rituals, magic, speculation, politics, and poetics. How do we imagine an active and implicated role of the human as one being among other beings? What might this entail, and what might this generate?

Résumé:
Widely considered to be one of the most influential American living artists, Carrie Mae Weems has developed a practice celebrated for her exploration of cultural identity, power dynamics, desire, intimacy and social justice through a body of work that challenges the prevailing representations of race, gender, and class. Defined by the use of photography, installation, film, performance and textile, her remarkably diverse and radical practice questions dominant ideologies and historical narratives created and disseminated within science, architecture, and mass media. Published in the context of her solo exhibitions at Barbican Art Gallery London and Kunstmuseum Basel, this book brings together a selection of Weems’ own writings, lectures, and conversations for the first time, providing personal insights into themes such as the consequences of power, artistic appropriation, music as inspiration, history-making, and the normative role of architecture.

Résumé:
Envisioning Architecture, the first in a series of three titles showcasing selected works from The Museum of Modern Art's superlative architecture and design collection, features a wide variety of drawings by great architects of the modern period, from early masters such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe to contemporary practitioners including Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, and others. Revealing the range of aesthetic viewpoints in architecture since the late 19th century, these drawings also cumulatively trace the development of the field, almost incidentally making the crucial point that in this increasingly technological age, the age-old discipline of drawing is as vital and inventive as ever. The book opens with an exploration of the relatively brief history of collecting architectural drawings, whose practice dates back little farther than the 16th century.

Résumé:
The product of an international collective of artists, architects and writers who create collaborative projects and publications, this third edition of Surface Tension's Supplement series documents three years of artistic research, site-specific work and location-based practices in Curitiba, Brazil--providing an in-depth exploration of the city's economically marginal favela dwellers, who venture throughout the public spaces of Curitiba in search of recyclable materials. Documentation and texts elaborate on the cultural and political issues that come to light through various uses of public space. Originally developed as a collaborative installation between international and local artists--including Ken Ehrlich, Brandon LaBelle, Octávio Camargo and Guilherme Soares--exhibited at Curitiba's Ybakatu Gallery, this publication raises pertinent questions about the consequences of cross-cultural and site-specific collaboration and proffers an experimental approach toward political inquiry and intermedia practice.

How do designers in research-driven practices differentiate themselves from each other and form distinctive platforms for future practice? The research presented in this second edition and carried out in Australia as part of an Australian Research Council Discovery Program is of significance for design practice, review, and our deeper understanding of the design of space and spaces. In continuing the exploration of spatial intelligence,” this research further develops our understanding of designers, how they work and what they draw on through their lives that shapes their spatial thinking, and their practice. The research also provides broader insights into a more public understanding and acknowledgement of our collective spatial intelligence. It shows how this could be developed and enhanced to provide more spatial and design literacy in our communities, and how these can engage with their changing environments.

Résumé:
A fascinating exploration of how photography, graphic design, and popular magazines converged to transform American visual culture at mid-century This dynamic study examines the intersection of modernist photography and American commercial graphic design between 1930 and 1960. Avant-garde strategies in photography and design reached the United States via European emigres, including Bauhaus artists forced out of Nazi Germany. The unmistakable aesthetic made popular by such magazines as Harper's Bazaar and Vogue-whose art directors, Alexey Brodovitch and Alexander Liberman, were both immigrants and accomplished photographers-emerged from a distinctly American combination of innovation, inclusiveness, and pragmatism. With more than 150 revolutionary photographs, layouts, and cover designs, 'Modern Look' considers the connections and mutual influences of such designers and photographers as Richard Avedon, Lillian Bassman, Herbert Bayer, Robert Frank, Lisette Model, Gordon Parks, Irving Penn, Cipe Pineles, and Paul Rand.

Résumé:
In ''On photographs,'' curator and writer David Campany presents an exploration of photography in 120 photographs. Proceeding not by chronology or genre or photographer, Campany’s eclectic selection unfolds according to its own logic. We see work by Henri Cartier-Bresson, William Eggleston, Helen Levitt, Garry Winogrand, Yves Louise Lawler, Andreas Gursky, and Rineke Dijkstra. There is fashion photography by William Klein, one of Vivian Maier’s contact sheets, and a carefully staged scene by Gregory Crewdson, as well as images culled from magazines and advertisements. Each of the 120 photographs is accompanied by Campany’s lucid and incisive commentary, considering the history of that image and its creator, interpreting its content and meaning, and connecting and contextualizing it with visual culture. Image by image, we absorb and appreciate Campany’s complex yet playful take on photography and its history.

Résumé:
An exploration of the Alpine region’s dynamic topography, conceived for the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale. For "How Will We Live Together", VOGT Landscape Architects has collaborated with the Chair of Günther Vogt at ETH Zurich, Institute of Landscape and Urban Studies on a publication that excavates the dynamic landscape of the Alpine region, with a particular focus on hydrological, biological and geological aspects of the topography. Characterized by a great diversity in all spatial dimensions and qualities, the Alps are not a stable structure, but a dynamic and sensitive organism, defined at the same time by intensive cultivation by humankind. Here, boundaries are ceaselessly overcome and continuously shifted. This book documents the contributions at the Biennale exploring the nature of alpine topography and complements them with scientific essays, artistic works and comprehensive photographs taken during field trips to the Alps.
