Résumé:
Smartphones, laptops, tablets, and e-readers all at one time held the promise of a more environmentally healthy world not dependent on paper and deforestation. The result of our ubiquitous digital lives is, as we see in The Anthrobscene, actually quite the opposite: not ecological health but an environmental wasteland, where media never die. Jussi Parikka critiques corporate and human desires as a geophysical force, analyzing the material side of the earth as essential for the existence of media and introducing the notion of an alternative deep time in which media live on in the layer of toxic waste we will leave behind as our geological legacy.

Résumé:
In light of the acute problems caused by human-induced transformation of the earth and its ecosystems we must reconsider at a fundamental level, and in slow, subtle and matter-of-fact ways how we understand and interact with the world of things. World of Matter, first a museum exhibition, developed into an international project investigating raw materials and the complex ecologies of which they are a part. The wide range of aesthetic and ethical approaches to the handling of resources in many world regions and post-national spaces that are presented in this book challenge the capitalistic assumption that the planet s materials are primarily for human consumption

Résumé:
Earth has been reinventing itself for more than four billion years, keeping a record of its experiments in the form of rocks. Yet most of us live our lives on the planet with no idea of its extraordinary history, unable to interpret the language of the rocks that surround us. Geologist Marcia Bjornerud believes that our lives can be enriched by understanding our heritage on this old and creative planet. Contrary to their reputation, rocks have eventful lives–and they intersect with our own in surprising ways. In "Turning to stone," Bjornerud reveals how rocks are the hidden infrastructure that keep the planet functioning, from sandstone aquifers purifying the water we drink to basalt formations slowly regulating global climate.

Résumé:
''Unearthing the underworld'' is a history of the Earth as told through rocks – the secret-keepers of past environments, of changing climates and the pulse of life over billions of years. Even the most seemingly ordinary stone can tell us much about the history of this planet, opening vistas of ancient worlds of ice, raging floods, strange, unbreathable atmospheres and prehistoric worlds teeming with life. Remarkably, many types of rock owe their existence to living organisms, from the remains of dead animals to rotting ancient forests, or even the activity of fungi, bacteria and viruses. Anything but dull and uninteresting, rocks are intriguing portals that illuminate the secret underworld upon which we live.

Résumé:
Gessenwiese and Kanigsberg form part of a landscape that has been in a process of constant change since 1946. The overburden from the mining industry created radioactive spoil heaps and lakes that are being rehabilitated by various means: plants growing on Gessenwiese accumulate contaminants from the soil. Textiles are used to slowly dry out the lakes and bind the radioactive dust. The banked mounds are returned to the earth bit by bit. These continual changes to the volumes in the landscape and their afterlife are the conceptual starting point for "G(essenwiese) K(anigsberg)." In recent years, Susanne Kriemann has developed a radically expanded idea of photography that investigates new systems for registering events and geological periods.

Résumé:
The devastation left in the wake of modernity and globalization is revealing a fragile and unfamiliar planet, and humanity has awakened to a new real. If the old “realist” tools of objectivism have contributed to capitalist society’s divorce from the natural world, how are artists finding new ways to make us really see—and feel—the planet? Surveying a body of planet-facing art, communal practices, and activism, Josephine Berry investigates art’s power to break with capitalist realism and decarbonize the imagination. With chapters on feeling as world-making, the rupture of petroleum landscapes, artists’ urban exodus, and migration as survival, ''Planetary Realism'' delves deeply into art’s necessary reimagining of life on Earth.

Résumé:
This monograph presents a comprehensive overview of the designs and finished projects by the architectural firm, De Zwarte Hond [The Black Dog] (formerly Karelse Van der Meer Architecten). De Zwarte Hond, with offices in Groningen and Rotterdam, has one of most extensive and eclectic portfolios of built projects in the Netherlands. The firm is distinctive for its down-to-earth design mentality, inspired by the conviction that the best design is the result of a thorough study of the requirements, programme and context of each project. The book examines De Zwarte Hond’s design process, dealing with their concern for craftsmanship and research, and provides a complete overview of hundreds of their projects.
