AP207.S1.2005.PR01
Description:
The project series documents the installation "Memorie" presented at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, in Chateauroux, in 2005. The installation consists of classroom furniture, such as desks, chairs and window panels, emerging from walls and "represent things that only partly resurface in the memory of each of us in different ways when we come across objects whose use is common to all." [1] The project series contains photographs of the installation. Source: [1] Gianni Pettena website, https://www.giannipettena.it/italiano/opere-1/inst-memories-2005/ (last accessed 22 January 2020).

Red Line (1972)
AP207.S1.1972.PR04
Description:
The project series documents "Red Line", a performance that consisted in tracing a red line in the middle of the road with paint sprayer and compressor loaded on the back of a truck. The red line stretched across forty-five kilometres of road and traced the limits of the municipality of Salt Lake City. "The red line rendered visible the boundaries that structure our mental fields of perception and modify our understanding of space." [1] The performance was carried out in February and March 1972 with a group of students from the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City. The project series contains photographs of Pettena and his team at work tracing the red line, a drawing, and a map of the Salt Lake City municipality showing the trajectory of the line. Source: [1] Marco Scotini, editor. Non-conscious architecture: Gianni Pettena, Sternberg Press, 2018, 235 pages. p. 168.

Clay House (1972)
AP207.S1.1972.PR02
Description:
The project series documents "Clay House", an installation undertaken by Pettena and a group of his students from the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, in 1972. It consisted of covering an entire inhabited house with clay located in a middle-class neighbourhood of Salt Lake City. The installation "was another study on the “working” of material, or rather a statement on the re-naturalization of denatured places and materials [...]." It also transformed the house by changing its colour from the other houses in the area, "all devitalized by the anonymity as well as the uniformity of their coloring." [2] The project series contains photographs of the residence before being covered in clay, a photograph of Pettena's team working at covering the house with clay, photographs of the finished installation, and a photograph of the model. The project series also contains drawings for the installation, and a drawing showing four stages of the installation. Description:
The sub-series documents the exhibition "Giardini Parchi Paesaggi. L’avventura delle idee in Toscana dall’Ottocento a oggi", curated by Pettena and presented at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, in 1998. The exhibition focuses on landscape architecture and its historical development by using the example of Tuscany from the 19th century to present day. "This set out to illustrate a historical course of development that also entailed the consideration and reevaluation [sic] of the landscape that results from human activity [...] and extended as far as an analysis and presentation of the most modern theme parks of sculpture and environmental art." [1] The sub-series contains research material, such as photocopies of articles and books on landscape architecture, and reference photographs. The sub-series also contains texts for the publication and correspondence related to the planning of the exhibition. AP207.S1.2014.PR01
Description:
The project series documents the installation "Architettura "Correta"" designed by Pettena for the exhibition "Soleil Politique" at the Museion in Bolzano, in 2014. The project was a design for a new museum entrance. The installation was made of three glass walls on which were drawn facade details of three historical buildings of the city. The central glass wall represents the entrance from the Piacentini square in Bolzano, with, at its left, a ‘serlian’ arch, and, at its right, a detail of the portico of a ‘Piazza d’Italia’ by Giorgio de Chirico. The idea was to "connect the museum to the city’s history, an architectural element was chosen, one which, in addition to favoring the idea of ‘entrance’ to the exhibit also permitted a view both of the urban and the natural setting, the sky, the mountains, an environment typical of the area in which the city itself rises." [1] The project series contains a sketch and a spiral bound volume with correspondence between Pettena and Pierre Bal Blanc, curator of the exhibitions, and proposals for the installation. The project series also contains photographs of the installation, including printouts. Description:
This project series documents Pettena's installation entitled "Milite Ignoto". This project is the second of a series of three installations created in 1968 which consisted of large three-dimensional letters, forming words, and made of perishable materials that slowly disintegrated once exposed to the elements. The words "Milite Ignoto" of this installation refers to "another stereotype, typical of hypocritical rhetoric and the ceremonies staged by politicians and generals." [1] This installation was presented outside the Palazzo dei Diamanti, in Ferrara. The project series contains installation photographs of the finished project at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a drawing of the installation, photographs of a later model of the cardboard word, and project descriptions in English and in Italian. Description:
The project series documents the installation "La Linea Del Tempo" presented at the Galleria Quadro 096, in Fiesole, in 2011. The installation consists of an architect's drawing table, of which the top gives the illusion of sinking in. The installation is accompanied by a television playing Pettena's 1971 movie "Intens" playing on a loop. "The idea of presenting together things that were conceived in years so distant that they can easily be thought of as two different seasons of life is meant to underline the author’s conceptual coherence on the subject of his own interest regarding the architect’s profession." [1] The project series contains three photographs of the installation and a project description.
