Résumé:
The ‘Intercalations’ series is an experimental foray exploring the structure of the book as a potential curatorial space. This third instalment, co-edited by Anna-Sophie Springer and Etienne Turpin, unfolds an itinerant encounter with 19th-century European naturalists in the Malay world, where the theory of evolution by natural selection emerged alongside less celebrated concerns about mass extinction and climate change. By re-considering the condition of colonial science in the tropics, we may find particular relevance for confronting forms of neo-colonisation in the Anthropocene. With contributions by George Beccaloni, Lucy Davis, Paulo Tavares, Rachel Thompson, and several others.

Résumé:
The fine line between art and architecture is rapidly becoming harder to perceive. With the aid of sophisticated computer programs, today's most innovative architects are working on designs so conceptual they could not be realized in the physical world. Nevertheless, these sorts of forward-thinking projects are an important influence on the architectural climate. At the dawn of the 21st century, architecture is entering a paradigm shift; no longer can it be completely distinguished from art. Be they built from bytes or bricks, the projects in this book represent the imagination of the planet's most talented and creative architects.

Résumé:
Environmental disasters and severe weather due to climate change have had an increasingly direct impact on our homes. But the way in which America builds its homes is part of the problem. This deeply researched history of sustainable design standards in building codes explores how public policy, standard-setting trade associations, and financial incentives influence the ways in which the construction of our homes impacts the environment. It exposes how the socioeconomic and political forces that influenced early building code development continue to define the character of current building codes and, by extension, determine how we regulate environmental impact and define sustainability today.

Résumé:
This is a publication about seeing versus not seeing, about gender, class and climate, a work about representation and reproduction. In short, a vehicle for perception and togetherness. After leaving an artist in residence in Japan spring 2019 and being back in Amsterdam Markus felt the need for silence and contemplation. Intuitively she built a studio setting in the forest and a photographic process began. It started with a found tarpaulin; the same kind of blue tarp that is a common sight in Japan and if one looks closer most often a shelter for someone homeless appears.

Résumé:
In this fourth volume, Atelier Bow-Wow delves into the window behavioural characteristics in nordic architecture, showing how climate and culture are strongly reflected in their windows. The works and influences of six architects are featured: Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz from Sweden, Alvar Aalto from Finland, and from Denmark, Kay Fisker, Arne Jacobsen and Jørn Utzon. After three years of research, the team visited about 235 works and measured 470 windows. 114 selected works are presented with photographs, detailed drawings, and analyses, examining the transformation of window technology and design, and the history and social issues of each country.

Résumé:
This book explores Wright's lessons on how climate, sustainability, sunlight, modern technology, local materials, and passive environmental controls can become the inspiration for excellent design, and highlights a selection of Wright's buildings to show how he dealt with these issues. The book is organized by the green concepts Wright used--including passive solar design and the use of thermal massing, passive berm insulation, environmentally sensitive landscaping, passive ventilation systems, passive natural light, and intelligent and artful adaptation of technology--with examples from different houses. It shows how Wright evolved certain ideas that continue to spur discussions of green architecture design today.

Résumé:
David T. Hanson's photographs of the coal-mining town of Colstrip, Montana, and the ruined landscape around it were exhibited by John Szarkowski at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1986. The work signaled a shift in American landscape photography, away from the cool modernism of the New Topographics. For this publication, Hanson has added 21 images and re-sequenced the series. Although the photographs were made in the early 1980s, they are perhaps even more relevant today, given growing concerns about energy production, environmental degradation and climate change. The pictures remain tragic reflections of a despoiled environment.

Davos is known worldwide as one of the most beautiful and exclusive skiing resorts in the world—and as the site of the annual World Economic Forum’s summit of global leaders. This unexpected look at Davos comes via the lens of Joël Tettamanti, a rising star in Swiss art circles. As the accompanying essay by curator Walter Keller explains, Tettamanti’s work presents the resort as an open-ended location whose meanings aren’t—despite its fame—in any way predetermined. Instead, he asks the viewer to experience the city in its totality, paying attention to the landscape, climate, people, dreams, and debris alike.

With today's ecological imperatives, contemporary architecture faces its greatest challenges since Modernism. In 2009, Denmark hosted an international summit on climate and sustainability. The Louisiana Museum is supporting this event with a major exhibition, The Future Has Arrived: Architecture for a Sustainable World, the second show in the series The Frontiers of Architecture. This exhibition catalogue presents a spectrum of new visions for sustainable global development, based upon the three parameters of economy, environment and social change, with essays by German architect Wilfried Wang, Danish philosopher Ole Thyssen and interviews with Ecosistema Urbano, Foster & Partners, Philippe Rahm and R(n).

Résumé:
In the Netherlands, climate change has brought more frequent and extreme rainfall causing pluvial flooding. Though the Dutch have dealt with water for centuries, since the Industrial Revolution urban water systems have become very inflexible and are now unable to deal with these new conditions. Despite the long tradition of building in wet and soft soil conditions, there has been little systematic research on building-site preparation and its relation to urban development and design. This book addresses this issue by investigating the relation between the available technology, the attitude towards the natural conditions and the urban design.
