Résumé:
Frustrated by Morocco’s rigid educational system of the 1990s, art teacher Hicham Benohoud used photography as a pedagogical tool, creating a makeshift darkroom in his classroom to foster collaborative and hands-on learning, encouraging students to engage with creativity and identity. The resulting images created with his students are marked by tension and alienation, blending absurdity, humour, and unease in their exquisitely framed and obliquely disarming compositions. In juxtaposing the monotony of the classroom with a visual exploration of both freedom and control, The Classroom builds a playful and existential critique of postcolonial identity, where childlike creative gestures merge into a more ambiguous aesthetic that hints at oppression, violence and isolation.

Architecture depends — on what? On people, time, politics, ethics, mess: the real world. Architecture, Jeremy Till argues, cannot help itself; it is dependent for its very existence on things outside itself. Despite the claims of autonomy, purity, and control that architects like to make about their practice, architecture is buffeted by uncertainty and contingency. (...)

Résumé:
Architecture depends — on what? On people, time, politics, ethics, mess: the real world. Architecture, Jeremy Till argues, cannot help itself; it is dependent for its very existence on things outside itself. Despite the claims of autonomy, purity, and control that architects like to make about their practice, architecture is buffeted by uncertainty and contingency. Jeremy Till offers a proposal for rescuing architects from themselves : a way to bridge the gap between what architecture actually is and what architects want it to be. Mixing anecdote, design, social theory, and personal experience, Till's writing is always accessible, moving freely between high and low registers, much like his suggestions for architecture itself.

Résumé:
People want a better quality of life now, genuine environmental responsibility, and local control over their own futures. "The urban village" is a seminal intellectual and practical contribution to the construction of such possibilities. It introduces new ideas, like territorial patrimony, and sustainable, local-level autonomous development, describing both the methodological aspects and the visionary, alternative communities which could become possible. Professor Magnaghi sees these as being profoundly democratic, environmentally sustainable, and embodying sufficient local economic strength to resist globalization. Another potential gain would be an increase in social well-being as measured by the quality of life, solidarity, and the development of non-commercial caring relations.

Résumé:
"Blank State" is more than a coloring book: it is an exercise in collaboration, inviting the participant to contribute to the act of creation. Architecture and urban planning impacts our lives dramatically, dictating how we interact with our everyday environments, yet they are largely out of the layperson's control. This book allows everyone to make their mark through the use of color and value. Starting with prehistory and progressing through a re-imagined past, present and future, this book reinvents an architectural legacy, a "blank state" ready to be colored in or not. All that is needed is imagination and a willingness to dream.

Résumé:
'Handbook of Tyranny' portrays the routine cruelties of the 21st century through a series of detailed nonfictional graphic illustrations. None of these cruelties represent extraordinary violence—they reflect day-to-day implementation of laws and regulations around the globe. Every page of the book questions our current world of walls and fences, police tactics and prison cells, crowd control and refugee camps. The dry and factual style of storytelling through technical drawings is the graphic equivalent to bureaucratic rigidity born of laws and regulations. The level of detail depicted in the illustrations of the book mirrors the repressive efforts taken by authorities around the globe.

Résumé:
John Turner's classic essay now in its fourht edition makes a unique contribution to housing theory and practice. His three Laws of Housing summarize the psychological, social and economic basis of his thesis: 1. When people have no control over, nor responsibility for, key decisions in the housing process, dwelling environments may become a barrier to personal fulfilment and a burden on the economy. 2. The important thing about housing is not what it is, but what it does in people's lives. 3. Deficiencies and imperfections in your housing are infinitely more tolerable if they are your responsibility than if they are somebody else's.
