Résumé:
The model is one of the oldest means of architectural representation and comes in an extravagant variety of forms, from miniaturizations of reality mesmerizing in their exactness to wildly energetic sculptural representations. "Modeling Messages: The Architect and the Model" is a study of the contemporary model, American and international, and its myriad uses in architectural practice. Among the illustrations are inventive designs by architects Peter Eisenman, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, and Rem Koolhaas. Author Karen Moon discusses the meaning of the model for the architect, the relationship between model and building, and the impact of scale. She also explores how architects use models for presentation and the creation of a public image. In addition, she focuses on the practice of model making: the relationship between the architect and the maker; the materials and new technologies that are transforming model making.

Résumé:
This volume compiles landmarks in modern and contemporary architecture that the eye of the architect Alfonso López Baz has captured with his camera, selecting the space, the lighting, and the moment. Buildings by Oscar Niemeyer, Tadao Ando, Herzog & de Meuron, Renzo Piano, Álvaro Siza, Teodoro González de León and many other leading architects that not only speak of their respective practices, but how they are read by ''another'' architect. With over 200 images, López Baz offers his subjective viewpoint in this wide-ranging overview of the most oustanding architecture of the past 100 years.

Résumé:
The first issue of 2026 opens with a tribute to the late Frank Owen Gehry (1929-2025). Larry Wayne Richards looks at how Frank’s legacy intersected with his hometown of Toronto, beyond the AGO and in-construction Forma towers; The editorial parses the news that the Ontario Place Protectors case is heading to the Supreme Court. A coalition is challenging the provincial government’s ability to exempt the waterfront land from environmental and heritage requirements, and to broadly indemnify itself against civil litigation related to the development. This month’s cover story is the redevelopment of Toronto’s Union Station, a 14-year-long project led by NORR Architects & Engineers with heritage architect EVOQ Architecture. Pamela Young examines the comprehensive overhaul, which vastly increases and improves the public realm within Canada’s largest multi-modal transportation hub, equipping it to handle 130 million passengers annually.

Résumé:
Come and explore forty-eight original houses, recently produced by American and Canadian architects for their clients. While many of these homes are one-of-a-kind works of art, all of the houses presented were produced with an eye for economy. How each budget-minded architect kept the cost low, using a combination of economical construction techniques and clever technological innovations, is discussed and illustrated. Ranging from starter homes to retirement houses, from vacation retreats to townhouses, from large houses accommodating offices and studios to small residences designed for simple living, these original and economical designs represent a wide variety of architectural outlooks and styles.

Résumé:
How architects and engineers relate to one another has long been debated but never before addressed over a broad span of history. There are many controversial issues: about professional demarcation, about credit for design, about the value we attach to art in buildings, and about how that connects with advances in technique and efficiency. This pioneering and handsomely illustrated book enquires for the first time into the pattern of these relationships since the Renaissance. Concentrating particularly on Britain, France and the United States, Architect and Engineer looks at what has actually taken place when architecture and engineering have interlocked. It examines projects ranging from the building of Waterloo Bridge to the evolution of the Chicago skyscraper, and personalities from Vauban to Brunel and Wright. The results of this impartial investigation may often surprise and provoke the reader. It is a study that has radical implications for the compartmentalized ways in which the history of architecture and construction has conventionally been addressed
