Description:
File documents a competition proposal by Cedric Price, in collaboration with Archigram, Per Kartvedt, and Tony Dugdale for a combined university / community centre, in Trondheim, Norway. The programme called for a congress centre, hotel rooms, sauna, and swimming pool. The final design proposal is described in the file: "Due to economy achievable in warming and ventilation through large scale air movements it was found possible to enclose 3 conventional partitions within an enormous 'greenhouse'. Giant snow sweepers on the roof combined with heated central 'open' swimming pools are additional artificial environment manipulators'. Conceptual sketches explore the development of the site in section. Relationships between areas are shown in color: "delight" in blue; "servicing" in yellow; and "escape" in orange. Drawings also include diagrammatic plans and sections. Many original conceptual sketches by both Cedric Price and Archigram are included within the textual records. Material in this file was produced between 1967 and 1974, but predominantly between 1972 and 1974. Some drawings and notes in this file are attributed to Archigram, Per Kartvedt, and Tony Dugdale. File contains design development drawings, presentation drawings, photographic materials, models, and textual records.

Projet
AP018.S1.1968.PR01
Description:
This project series documents St. John's City Hall and Civic Centre in Newfoundland from 1968-1970. The office identified the project number as 68002. This project consisted of three phases of development, with phase I being city hall, phase II being a commercial redevelopment, and phase III being additional public buildings. The master program included plans for a library, department store, supermarket, retail stores, a movie theatre, a hotel with a restaurant and banquet hall, a bus terminal and 160 residential units. It is not clear from the project materials whether these buildings were realized. The city hall site consisted of a concrete building on New Grower Street, which sat atop a concrete podium with parking below. A system of diagonal terraces with pedestrian areas also made up the podium. City hall, which was approximately four-storeys at its maximum height, included council chambers, offices, a great hall with artifacts and memorials, and municipal departments, among others. This project won an Award of Excellence for The Canadian Architect in 1968. The project is recorded through reprographic copies of mechanical and electrical drawings dating from 1970.

Description:
The portfolio 'Oeuvre de C. Rohault de Fleury', published in 1884 (DR1974:0002:029), is introduced by a succinct 'Notice Biographique', the author of which remains unknown. It provides valuable information on his family background and a narrative description of his major works (including unexecuted projects), illustrated by the accompanying unbound prints. The commentary is particulary informative concerning Charles Rohault de Fleury's work at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, the 1859 opera house project for the Théâtre Imperiale de l'Opera, and his innovative use of iron (reinforced) floors and roof trusses in both his public and domestic projects. Another copy of this portfolio is located in the CCA library. Album DR1974:0002:026:001-038 (1854-1858) contains drawings of architectural ornament by Charles and/or Georges Rohault de Fleury. Some of the drawing are possibly studies of ornament for Charles' architectural projects of the 1850's such as Hôtel Soltykoff, although others appear to be typical student drawings of classical architecture and ornament executed by Georges. Included are twelve drawings of architectural ornament and sculpture submitted by Georges to a newly introduced 'dessin' Prix d'emulation at the École des beaux-arts (see series CI001.S1: Architetural Education).
