Résumé:
1966 was a promising year. Aldo Rossi published "The Architecture of the City" and Robert Venturi came out with "Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture". The stage seemed set for a productive critique of modernism and the development of a more mature approach to the intricacies of architecture. Architecture seemed on the verge of rediscovering its collective nature(...)

The stage seemed set for a productive critique of modernism and the development of a more mature approach to the intricacies of architecture. Architecture seemed on the verge of rediscovering its collective nature and about to redefine its knowledge by starting from the city.

Richard Weston ponders on the sources of inspiration in Utzon's creative process, Marja-Riitta Norri contributes a Nordic approach to the courtyard houses, Françoise Fromonot recalls the research carried out to write her monograph on the Sydney Opera House, the unbuilt projects are covered by Enrique Sobejano, Kenneth Frampton focuses on Bagsværd Church, and Rafael Moneo, who worked with Utzon in 1961, writes about the two Mallorca houses

As every year since 1993, the Yearbook of 'AV Monographs gathers' gathers the best buildings completed in Spain over the past twelve months, taking stock of its characteristic high quality despite the crisis that still affects the field. The year that saw the Pritzker go to the Catalan studio RCR Arquitectes, and the establishment of the Norman Foster Foundation in Madrid, also witnessed important inaugurations like that of the Botín Centre in Santander – the first building by Renzo Piano in Spain –, the Congress Center in Palma by Francisco Mangado, or the new stadium of Atlético de Madrid in the old ‘Peineta’, by Cruz & Ortiz.

The first examines how new needs and material structures combine to offer opportunities for designers to experiment with innovative layouts and a new formal repertoire that can affect urban dynamics. Examples include Cornell Tech, Central European University, and the Southern Utah Museum of Art. Résumé:
The taste for industrial aesthetics, just one of many reasons for the popularity of industrial conversions today, saw its beginnings during the age of post-war modernism, popularised by architects such as Le Corbusier, Gropius, and Mies van der Rohe. Yet the trend to rethink industrial structures also signals the imbalance of production and consumption that has arisen since the 1970s. Currently, however, rehabilitation initiatives are bringing production back to the city through projects like the thirteen examples in this special issue. Included are the Baltic Station Market by KOKO architects, Zeitz MOCAA by Heatherwick Studio, Malmö Market Hall by Wingårdh, and The Silo by COBE.
