Résumé:
A pioneering figure in kinetic and programmed art, Gianni Colombo anticipated many of the themes in today’s contemporary art. This book covers Colombo’s artistic career from 1959-1980. Colombo’s practice aimed at overcoming the traditional notion of art as an object to contemplate, in order to create work that requires the active involvement of the viewer. From his tactile pieces and works in motion of the late 1950s, to his immersive light installations of the 1960, into his mature large-scale environments, he conceived art as the place for an experience which belongs to both the body and the mind. His investigation of space is led by this idea of changing the spectator’s conventional relationship with reality, both physically and psychically, encompassing also a broad dialogue with technology and architecture.

Résumé:
Two-dimensional floor plans, elevations and cross-sections are fundamental to the construction of all buildings. Perspective drawings provide a three-dimensional expression of the architect's ideas. In order to communicate architectural concepts and realize them, drawing that present objects on a reduced scale remain indispensable- for both builders and clients- even in an age of CAD and BIM. This richly illustrated book explores the developmental history of the architectural drawing and in the process provides a comprehensive insight into the fascinating world of this medium of representation. The images it contains are certainly not restricted to austere technical drawings. It repeatedly surprises with highly impressive examples of visual invention that display a genuine artistic quality. It is a convincing plea for ever new ways of drawing architecture and thereby imagining future worlds.

Résumé:
In 1970, Henri Lefebvre put forward the radical hypothesis of the complete urbanization of society, a circumstance that in his view required a radical shift from the analysis of urban form to the investigation of urbanization processes. Drawing together classic and contemporary texts on the "urbanization question", this book explores various theoretical, epistemological, methodological and political implications of Lefebvre's hypothesis. It assembles a series of analytical and cartographic interventions that supersede inherited spatial ontologies (urban/rural, town/country, city/non-city, society/nature) in order to investigate the uneven implosions and explosions of capitalist urbanization across places, regions, territories, continents and oceans up to the planetary scale.

Résumé:
What if someone looked at an actual building and said, “That model is very large”? Scales is the result of a commission by the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), Montréal, given to Naoya Hatakeyama to create a work in response to photographs of architectural models in the Collection. The commission was issued in the context of the Tangent project curated for the CCA by Hubertus von Amelunxen. Tangent is a project constructed to bring contemporary artists into dialogue with the CCA's extraordinary collection. As described by von Amelunxen, the camera's eye, once it is trained on an architectural subject, acts as a tangent that touches a volume, a tangent that in turn undergoes a new tangential translation as it meets the gaze of a contemporary artist.

Résumé:
Colors have a presence over and beyond the objects - buildings, spaces, billboards, artefacts and people - that make up the city. Not only does color give meaning to cities, cities give meaning to color. Whether carefully coordinated, clashing or an expression of materials, color is a powerful cultural, economic and political force in cities. Yet discussions on the city do not usually focus much on color, perhaps because urban colors are too often understood as being beyond any authority or taste or simply dismissed as cosmetic, naive or intangible. Volume 3 of New Geographies brings together artists and designers, anthropologists, historians, planners, and philosophers within the aim of exploring the potency, the interaction, and neglected design possibilities of color at the scale of the city.
