In the 1970s, Siza designed the furniture for this project and also worked on the 1990s restoration and renovation work. The project series consists of sketches, studies, plans, elevations, and details for the Casa de Chá, Restaurante da Boa Nova as well as sketches of the furniture designed by Siza. Photographs, negatives, and slides document the exterior and interior of the built project, as well as the project site. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 32/60. The office assigned the date 1968 for this project. The project consisted of an urban plan for this historic part of the city. It was done in relation to the Edifício de Escritórios na Av. D. Afonso Henriques (see project series AP178.S1.1968.PR02 described in this fonds). In the 1940s, demolition created a rupture with the remaining buildings, including the Porto Cathedral. Since the 1950s, there have been several studies and proposals to rearrange this part of the city. Siza’s plan was the first to be accepted by the city council in 1968. The project consisted of a new layout for the Avenue D. Afonso Henriques, the connection between the Luis I Bridge to the D. Pedro Square and the São Bento Railway Station. The intention of the project was also to reduce traffic. The project was not realized. Siza also proposed a new design in 2001 for the site across the avenue from this one, known as Avenida da Ponte II. This included a museum, library, stores, parking, and houses. This project related to the building Casa Dos 24 Fernando Távora. The scheme was not realized. Documenting the Arranjo Urbanistico are studies and site plans. The complex consisted of three octagonal buildings joined by tunnels and skywalks. The first building, Central Computer Complex Two (CCC2), was a three-storey data processing equipment building. The second building, Central Facilities Building (CUB), was a three-storey building devoted to shipping and receiving and employee spaces such as a library, exercise room, cafeteria and lounge, and a medical exam area. The third building, Staff Support Offices, was a four-storey building that contained employee offices. In addition, each building had a penthouse that contained mechanical and electrical equipment. A large part of the project was administered through John C. Parkin’s engineering firm, Parkin Engineers limited, with Paul Keenan acting as president. The project is recorded through drawings, photographs, presentation boards and textual records dating from 1977-1982. The majority of reprographic copies are drawings used in the construction phase of the project. The photographs show the construction of the building. The textual records include design planning notes, client and contractor correspondence, site reports, change orders, supplementary instructions, specifications, detail drawings, meeting minutes, schedules, and invoices for work completed. Description:
File documents an unsuccessful competition entry for the River Clyde Study & Ideas Competition, organised by the City of Glasgow, Scotland, for the rehabilitation of sections of the river bank. Cedric Price's entry proposed the conversion of existing coal yards and abandoned docks with a "metropolitan farm" including a food-growing complex, fish and hydroponic farms, and marketing facilities, along with a new public river transportation system. An existing conditions survey and a map show the docks and areas along the River Clyde. Design development drawings of diagrams and charts explore the various activities and the accommodation of each activity within the design limitations associated with it. Components of the plan are organized by activity type, location, and the amount of time required per activity. The activities shown include shopping, observation, gardening, employment, sports, and retraining. Other components of the plan are shown in detail: housing, the city farm, research center, a ferry and ferry stop, and a floating jungle. A diagram plots the travel time from the project area to various locations within Glascow. A public survey card monitors the project. One plan compares the size of this project site with other sites including that of Abu Dhabi Breakwater (AP144.S2.D94). Reprographic copies show regional relevance, and explore "test-bed" areas for activities such as forestry and agriculture. Some material in this file was published in 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 36, 39. Material in this file was produced between 1973 and1988, but predominantly in 1973. File documents an unsuccessful competition entry for the River Clyde Study & Ideas Competition, organised by the City of Glasgow, Scotland, for the rehabilitation of sections of the river bank. Cedric Price's entry proposed the conversion of existing coal yards and abandoned docks with a "metropolitan farm" including a food-growing complex, fish and hydroponic farms, and marketing facilities, along with a new public river transportation system. An existing conditions survey and a map show the docks and areas along the River Clyde. Design development drawings of diagrams and charts explore the various activities and the accommodation of each activity within the design limitations associated with it. Components of the plan are organized by activity type, location, and the amount of time required per activity. The activities shown include shopping, observation, gardening, employment, sports, and retraining. Other components of the plan are shown in detail: housing, the city farm, research center, a ferry and ferry stop, and a floating jungle. A diagram plots the travel time from the project area to various locations within Glascow. A public survey card monitors the project.
