The photography of Jeff Wall (born 1946) is consciously and profoundly saturated in the social: in the Vancouver art community from which he first emerged, fully formed, in the late 1970s; in the racial and gender politics of our times, which he analyses with marvelous clarity in his huge photographic light boxes that declare an equal status with painting through their scale and their carefully plotted depth and grandeur; in the art history pantheon that informs his staged compositions, from Hokusai to Velásquez and Manet; and in his influence on at least two generations of photographers, most notably the Düsseldorf school (Andreas Gursky once cited Wall as “a great model for me” ). This publication examines the cultural context for Wall's tremendous achievement in photography. Wall himself has chosen 25 of his own photographs, taken between the late 1970s and the present, and has constellated them among the visionary company his work keeps, alongside reproductions of works by Marcel Duchamp, Diane Arbus, Eugene Atget, Wols, Andreas Gursky, David Claerbout, Thomas Struth, Frank Stella, Robert Smithson, Rodney Graham, Ian Wallace, Lawrence Wiener and R.W. Fassbinder. This book orients Wall's photography across ten themed chapters, each of which is prefaced with an interview with Wall by Hans De Wolf. Today, with the digital revolution reorganizing the relationship between drafting board and factory, it continues to spur innovative manufacturing and design, and its potential has clearly not yet come to fruition. Home Delivery traces the history of prefabrication in architecture, from its early roots in colonial cottages though the work of such figures as Jean Prouvé and Buckminster Fuller, and mass-produced variants such as the Lustron house, to a group of full-scale contemporary houses commissioned specifically for the MoMA exhibition that this book accompanies. In addition to an introductory essay by Barry Bergdoll, Chief Curator in the Museum’s Department of Architecture and Design, this volume contains essays on prefabricated housing in Japan and in Nordic countries by Ken Tadashi Oshima and Rasmus Waern, respectively. In The Second Digital Turn, Mario Carpo explains that this is because the design professions are now coming to terms with a new kind of digital tools they have adopted—no longer tools for making but tools for thinking. In the early 1990s the design professions were the first to intuit and interpret the new technical logic of the digital age: digital mass-customization (the use of digital tools to mass-produce variations at no extra cost) has already changed the way we produce and consume almost everything, and the same technology applied to commerce at large is now heralding a new society without scale—a flat marginal cost society where bigger markets will not make anything cheaper. But today, the unprecedented power of computation also favors a new kind of science where prediction can be based on sheer information retrieval, and form finding by simulation and optimization can replace deduction from mathematical formulas. He handed out free food and 'fresh air' on the streets, created architecture from refuse, and planned visionary architectural projects. His engagement with the urban landscape also led him to set up an artist-run restaurant, Food. This elegant produced book complements an exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow and the Architectural Association, London.

At a moment in which representation and uncovering ‘'lost'’ histories are trending, Errant asks what is being erased in a world where everything must always be visible. The eighth issue of Errant Journal questions the ways in which hegemonic culture and discourse tends to prioritize the ideal of openness, access, transparency, and visibility. Delving into topics such as face coverings, ‘'coming out'’ in queer discourses, the use of opacity in transformative justice, and different strategies of (visual) resistance, ‘'Against Visibility'’ can be read as a proposition of refusal of the paradigm of visibility and access that permeates all areas of western thinking. At a moment in which representation and uncovering ‘'lost'’ histories are trending, Errant asks what is being erased in a world where everything must always be visible. When Édouard Glissant proclaimed the right to opacity, he sought not to be reduced or to be measured against an ideal scale in order to be understood and accepted.
