The winter 2018 edition of Spacing takes a swing at sports and how local athletics have shaped neighbourhoods, transportation planning, and Toronto’s narrative. Our contributors examine a variety of topic such as the spectacular local rise of lucha libre, how to accommodate the rise of new sports on old athletic facilities (cricket, bike polo), and how the City plans traffic management during major sporting events. Other features tackled in the magazine include the changing nature of street trees, the rise of punk venues in 1980s Toronto, how the city worked with youth gangs in the 1940s, and the search for the fabled “Toronto House” painted by Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris.

Résumé:
FAKTUR is a journal that celebrates research as the source of architectural imagination. FAKTUR—the German term for a dynamic concept and a set of techniques that influenced the Russian avant-garde of the early twentieth century—identifies both a subjective medium and a technical, productive, and social construct, documented as visual traces in the final work of art. Subsequently, the term came to identify the organic process of materialization. Its use is intended as a counter-model to the utopian genre of culture elucidated in William Morris’s "News from Nowhere". Rather than the ideal, ex-temporal, and ungraspable political space that operates at the intersection between representation and ideology, this magazine offers a materialist critique of contemporary culture.

Three years ago, Canadian Architect and Twenty + Change first partnered to bring a curated showcase of emerging Canadian architectural practices to the pages of this magazine. This year, we are thrilled to have done so again. The sixth edition of Twenty + Change, called New Perspectives, is the result of an open call for submissions, and careful consideration by a curatorial team representing architectural practices from across the country—many of whom were showcased in earlier editions of Twenty + Change. The team included Marie-Chantal Croft of Écobâtiment (Quebec City), Susan Fitzgerald of FBM (Halifax), Andrew Hill of StudioAC (Toronto), Ben Klumper of Modern Office of Design + Architecture (Calgary), , Heather Dubbeldam of Dubbeldam Architecture + Design (Toronto) and Elsa Lam of Canadian Architect (Toronto).

Résumé:
Printed Pages is an arts and design magazine which focuses on depth and discovery, combining engaging and accessible content with top-notch design values. Published twice a year, it is a compendium of the best work featured on itsnicethat.com, curated and designed by the editorial and creative team. For this issue, Printed Pages delves deep into the Bauhaus archives 100 years after the school opened its doors, with a little help from Pentagram partner Sascha Lobe, who designed both the cover and the poster. Inside, there's a report on what went down when they spent a week at Eike König's ''After School Club'', a trip to Nigeria with designer Lemi Ghariokwu, and a look at what must be the world's most heated bonfire rivalry.
