Résumé:
"This system is killing us" is an insider look at the catastrophic effects that energy infrastructure and mining are having on communities and our planet. Xander Dunlap spent a decade living and working with Indigenous activists and land defenders across the world to uncover evidence of the repression people have faced in the wake of untamed capitalist growth. By centring the struggles of people whose lives are being systematically destroyed, Dunlap reveals gaps within the current official debates around climate change. This includes reviewing feuds between socialist modernism and degrowth. While changing public policy could play a constructive role in remediating climate catastrophe, by understanding the successes and failures of those "on the front lines," it becomes clear that ecologically decentralized self-organization could be the only way out of this environmental nightmare.

Résumé:
A bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom - are these rooms all that make a home? Not at all, argues Emanuele Coccia. The buildings we inhabit are of immense psychological and cultural significance. They play a decisive role in human flourishing and, for hundreds of years, their walls and walkways, windows and doorways have guided our relationships with others and with ourselves. They reflect and reinforce social inequalities; they allow us to celebrate and cherish those we love. They are the places of return that allow us to venture out into the world. In this intimate, elegantly argued account, Coccia shows how the architecture of home has shaped, and continues to shape, our psyches and our societies, before then masterfully leading us towards a more creative, ecological way of dwelling in the world.

Résumé:
Conversion, adaptation, reuse - these techniques are as old as construction itself. However, since the industrialization of the building industry and the emergence of modernism in architecture, newly constructed buildings have dominated our idea of good and progressive architecture. For decades, conversion did not play a significant role in architectural practice. Today, things have changed. The industrialization of the construction industry has led to environmental degradation, and the reform potential of modernism has been exhausted. Consequently, the existing building stock is one of the resources - perhaps even the most important resource - for the transformation of our cities. Against this backdrop, the architecture of conversion has made an unexpected comeback. Young architects in particular are providing surprising answers to the environmental and social questions of our time with their conversion projects.

Résumé:
Housing is more than bricks and mortar. The home is where our hopes and dreams play out, and it lies at the heart of our lives. This is where we rest, eat, and relax. The home we enjoy can determine our health, life expectancy, and day-to-day well-being. In contrast, the lack of a stable residence can lead to mental and physical illness and often premature death. This is central to how we conceive of a good and dignified life. "Feeling at home" grapples with the practical and emotional questions of housing – domestic labour, privacy, security, ownership, and health. Is it possible to imagine success without home ownership? Alva Gotby makes clear that solving the housing crisis is about much more than housing stock. It is about revolutionising our everyday lives and labours.

Résumé:
"Phrases" presents the spoken language from six films by Jean-Luc Godard: "Germany Nine Zero," "The Kids Play Russian," "JLG / JLG," "2 x 50 Years of French Cinema," "For Ever Mozart," and "In Praise of Love." Completed between 1991 and 2001, during what has been called Godard’s "years of memory," these films and videos were made alongside and in the shadow of his major work from that time, the monumental Histoire(s) du cinema, complementing and extending its themes. Like Histoire(s), they offer meditations on, among other things, the tides of history, the fate of nations, the work of memory, the power of cinema, and the nature of love. Gathered here, in written form, they are words without images: not exactly screenplays, not exactly poetry, but something else entirely.

Résumé:
This book takes the reader on a tour of the concept behind the Ulm School, its 15 years of life and its legacy. The look at the past also follows the long path taken by German design, starting with the Bauhaus, before emigrating to the USA and eventually returning to its roots. The authors illustrate the role the School continues to play by pointing out everyday products designed by HfG teachers and alumni, e.g the Lufthansa corporate design and the ICE train, to name but two examples. There is also a look at some visionary projects that the School never realized. On the theoretical level, the book begins and concludes with a discussion of international modernism in philosophy and design, culminating in the question of its future, especially in terms of architecture and our environment.

Résumé:
'Craft Becomes Modern: The Bauhaus in the Making' looks at the Bauhaus from the perspective of this noisy activity — handcraft. No term was more fiercely disputed there. Although conceived as “laboratories for industry,” a great deal was still done by hand in the Dessau workshops. Workshops at the Bauhaus straddled the different priorities and practical realities at play, falling somewhere between factory and craft business, between free experimentation and industrial contract work. From this field of tension, the Bauhaus tried to define handcraft anew as a utopian pursuit that could coexist with industrial culture. The Bauhaus’ interest in industrialization has been thoroughly studied; the persistence of craft among its teachers and students much less so. Craft Becomes Modern surveys this aspect of the Bauhaus’ teaching and work, and puts it in historical context.

Résumé:
The first volume of the collection maps the work of the institutions and organisations involved in communicating the new and innovative thought and practice leading architecture today, highlighting the strategies they use and programmes they run to support this. Essays and interviews from the Museum of Architecture and Design, Ljubljana, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts, Rome, the Swiss Architecture Museum, Basel, CANactions, Kiev, Prishtina Architecture Week, Kosovo, the Lisbon Architecture Triennale and others give working examples of the roles that these organisations and institutions play in communication and education for those both within and beyond the field of architecture. A particular highlight of the book is a “collage conversation”, a visual dialogue between Superstudio co-founder Cristiano Toraldo di Francia and Guillermo López of MAIO, with some images specially commissioned for the publication.
